About The Position

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Lead Construction Consultant for our Vancouver, WA office. Be involved in projects with our Construction Management Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients’ objectives and solves their challenges.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.
  • A minimum of 7 years of directly relevant experience, including Resident Engineer or related roles (or equivalent working knowledge/experience).
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret contract documents.
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and materials.
  • Experience with project scheduling, estimating, and constructability reviews.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as being part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Analytical mindset with an ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a technical and non-technical audience.
  • Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Valid state drivers’ license.
  • Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with local municipalities and/or local transportation agencies.
  • Background in construction management, architecture, or engineering fields.
  • Professional Engineer License.
  • Familiarity with SharePoint, MS Office, MS Project and other PC software used on design and construction projects.
  • Bridge and highway construction inspection experience.

Responsibilities

  • Bring a “best practice” mindset with an eye to constant improvement and quality in delivery of work product including developing comprehensive quality documents and working with independent internal and client quality assurance teams.
  • Supervise, develop and train field staff and other construction support staff assigned to a project.
  • Supervise and conduct the inspection and review of work in accordance with applicable codes and standards included in the project drawings and specifications.
  • Responsible for field inspection, testing, surveying, and quality control on one large or several small construction projects.
  • Verify and review project documentation for acceptance including pay applications, change orders, submittals, shop drawings, traffic control modifications, and others.
  • Act as the primary point of contact between the client, project team, and contractors.
  • Manage the construction management team, including sub-consultants.
  • Review and make recommendations for contractors' project schedules and non-conforming work.
  • Lead construction meetings with clients and contractors.
  • Meet with prospective clients to learn about future CM pursuit opportunities.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
