About The Position

The Lead Strategist, Community Engagement leads the development and activation of American Family's Community Engagement strategy through the Sustainable Business Framework (SBF). This role identifies, develops, and advances initiatives, partnerships, and investments that strengthen communities while creating long-term value for customers, the enterprise, and communities. Serving as a bridge between enterprise strategy and community impact, the Lead Strategist translates the Community Engagement ambition into actionable programs, strategic partnerships, governance processes, and measurable outcomes. The role collaborates across business functions, external partners, nonprofit organizations, universities, and industry groups to identify opportunities that improve community resilience, advance housing accessibility, address emerging customer needs, and support future business growth.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience providing customer-driven solutions, support or service.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting research and interpreting quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Demonstrated experience developing business strategy by working directly with executive and senior management as either an internal or external management consultant.
  • Demonstrated experience evaluating business trends and developing new business programs and strategies in response.
  • 5+ years of experience in strategy, sustainability, community engagement, corporate responsibility, nonprofit partnerships, social impact, public affairs, or related fields.
  • Experience leading cross-functional initiatives and managing complex stakeholder relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strategic recommendations supported by research and data.
  • Strong verbal, written, and executive presentation skills.
  • Experience in insurance, corporate sustainability, ESG, community investment, or resilience planning.
  • Knowledge of housing, climate resilience, disaster recovery, or community development ecosystems.
  • Experience working with universities, nonprofit organizations, industry collaboratives, or public-sector partners.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the execution of the Community Engagement pillar of the Sustainable Business Framework.
  • Develop and maintain multi-year strategic roadmaps, priorities, and business cases for community-focused initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities where community needs, customer challenges, and enterprise objectives intersect.
  • Translate research, benchmarking, stakeholder insights, and trend analysis into actionable recommendations for leadership.
  • Cultivate and manage relationships with nonprofit organizations, industry associations, academic institutions, and community stakeholders.
  • Identify and evaluate partnership opportunities that advance community resilience, housing accessibility, and future customer needs.
  • Develop partnership strategies that leverage enterprise capabilities alongside philanthropic and community investments.
  • Represent American Family in external collaborations and industry conversations related to community impact and resilience.
  • Lead initiatives that strengthen the resilience of customers and communities, including climate adaptation and disaster recovery efforts.
  • Research emerging risks, trends, and opportunities that may influence future community and customer needs.
  • Evaluate innovative approaches that can create both community impact and business value.
  • Establish and manage KPIs that measure community engagement outcomes and strategic progress.
  • Monitor, collect, analyze, and communicate performance metrics to internal stakeholders.
  • Develop executive presentations, strategic recommendations, and annual reporting.
  • Lead Community Engagement Council activities, facilitate collaboration, and drive alignment across stakeholders.
  • Conduct stakeholder interviews, needs assessments, and cross-functional workshops to identify opportunities and inform strategy.
  • Influence without direct authority to advance complex, cross-functional initiatives.
