About The Position

This role involves providing comprehensive clinical services, including individual, family, and group therapy, as well as crisis intervention. The Lead Clinician is responsible for accurate documentation, maintaining client files and clinical manuals, and preparing various reports. A key aspect of this position, particularly at the Silver Oak Academy, includes reviewing and approving student treatment plans, conducting assessments, coordinating with other mental health professionals, and providing clinical supervision. The role also emphasizes ensuring the safety, health, and welfare of staff and students, acting as a positive role model, upholding program norms, and maintaining compliance with agency policies and procedures. The Lead Clinician will also assist with quality improvement efforts and attend all required meetings and training.

Requirements

  • Maryland specific: Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work or Counseling with a license from the Maryland State Board of Social Workers Examiners. Must apply for a Maryland State Department of Education Social Work License within 60 days of employment. All direct-care staff must comply with COMAR 14.31.06.06.
  • Other sites: Bachelor’s degree in related field with enrollment in a Rite of Passage Master’s program will be considered.
  • One year of prior experience working in a residential setting with adolescent offenders, their families and the Juvenile Justice System.
  • Must meet the requirements to be an eligible ROP driver. Must possess a current State Driver’s License and have an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background clearance check, drug screen, physical and TB test.
  • Ability to utilize resources available to complete assigned projects.
  • Ability to prepare written reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, verbally and in writing.
  • Able to work in excess of 40 hours per week with the possibility of a varied schedule.
  • Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Must have excellent organization and time management skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive internal and external relationships.
  • Ability to provide exemplary customer service to all employees and outside constituents.
  • Ability to function independently and as a member of a team in a multi-task environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provides individual, family and group therapy as indicated by program needs.
  • Documents all therapy and contacts with clients and other service providers.
  • Maintains clients’ clinical files in a timely and orderly fashion.
  • Maintains the Clinical Training Manual in a timely and orderly fashion, if applicable.
  • Provides crisis intervention as needed. Ensures documentation is completed.
  • Transports clients for therapeutic services when needed.
  • Prepares monthly progress notes, staffing reports, plans and discharge summaries.
  • Reviews and approves, as a licensed Clinician, student treatment plans; provides entry assessment services and testing as required for DJS placements; Coordinates and identifies other licensed mental health professionals (psychologist, psychiatrists, etc.) to provide services as required by treatment plan or IEP; provides site clinical coordinator supervision and direct therapy services as trained PLL professional, including co-facilitation, development of therapeutic interns and family interface.
  • Ensures the safety, health and welfare of staff and students at all times.
  • Provides encouragement, guidance and resources to staff and students when needed.
  • Models and ensures all program norms are upheld without compromise.
  • Acts as a positive role model and mentor for both staff and students.
  • Treats others with respect, confronts negative behavior and supports confrontations.
  • Completes required reports and documentation in a timely manner, provides management with required reports and advises of any problematic situations.
  • Complies with and implements the Rite of Passage Policies and Procedures as detailed in the appropriate manuals/handbooks.
  • Ensures the highest standards are maintained to prevent illegal, unethical, or improper conduct and to ensure the program remains in compliance with agency licensing and Rite of Passage policies and procedures.
  • Assists with the correction of deficiencies and quality improvement efforts.
  • Attends and participates in all required meetings.
  • Commits to attending all training and staff development classes in order to ensure sufficient hours of training on an annual basis. Notifies supervisor if annual training hours are deficient.
  • Other duties as assigned, verbally or in written form to meet the needs of the program.
  • Participates in Site, Region and/or Company events as required.
