About The Position

The Lead Clinician is an Advanced Practice Provider who provides comprehensive health care in the areas of family planning, abortion services, and related primary care services in accordance with the PPSE Medical Standards and Guidelines. The Lead Clinician works with the Medical Management Team and Operations Leadership Team to maintain and implement the Medical Standards and Guidelines, federal and state regulations, and Planned Parenthood Southeast’s (PPSE) policies and procedures. The Lead Clinician serves as the clinical supervisor and trainer for Advanced Practice Clinicians, RNs, and LPNs, and participates in PPSE’s Compliance, Risk, and Quality Management program as a leader and clinical subject matter expert.

  • Graduate Degree from an accredited School of Nursing or Physician Assistant program required.
  • A valid and current Georgia license as a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM), Nurse Practitioner (NP), or Physician Associate (PA) required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Must comply with licensure requirements for practice capacity and have or obtain a current license in all practicing states.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Women’s, Reproductive, or Family Planning healthcare experience preferred.
  • Experience with digital healthcare delivery and management platforms.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical orientation, training, and performance management for Advanced Practice Clinicians, RNs, and LPNs.
  • Serve as a standing member on the Clinical Subcommittee of PPSE’s Compliance, Risk, and Quality Management program.
  • Assist the Chief Medical Officer in the proctoring and annual skills evaluation of all Advanced Practice Clinicians, RNs, and LPNs.
  • Provide ongoing technical assistance and in-service training for licensed and unlicensed staff in collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer, VP of Patient Services, Director of CRQM and Health Center Managers.
  • Collaborate with Director of Compliance, Risk, and Quality Management (CRQM) and the Medical Director to maintain and implement the Medical Standards and Guidelines.
  • Provide clinical leadership by teaching, coaching, and consultation on clinical/case management issues for Advanced Practice Clinicians, RNs, and LPNs.
  • With the Chief Medical Officer, conduct monthly Provider meetings.
  • Serve as a member of PPSE’s Medical Management team to ensure delivery of high-quality care and excellent patient experience.
  • Work with the Medical Management Team and Operations Leadership Team to improve processes, launch new services, and ensure all clinical policies are followed.
  • Participate as a member of PPSE’s Credentialing Committee.
  • Maintain and communicate the productivity expectations and compliance standards of PPSE
  • Work with the Director of CRQM and Chief Medical Officer to ensure that quality assurance activities are maintained and monitored at all sites.
  • Provide centralized follow-up services and oversee follow up program.
  • Serve as an EHR subject matter expert and provide training and troubleshooting in the clinical setting for providers and staff using EHR.
  • Practice to the top of license and full extent of the law in accordance with Planned Parenthood Southeast’s Medical Standards and Guidelines (MS&Gs), state and federal laws and regulations, and PPSE’s policies and procedures.
  • Perform, order, and interpret screening and diagnostic testing; address abnormal findings.
  • Develop medical management plans and provide patient instruction regarding plan of care, referrals, preventive education, and health promotion and maintenance.
  • Assess and follow up on interventions and/or referral progress as specified in the MS&Gs.
  • Document accurately and clearly; demonstrate proficiency in PPSE’s Electronic Health Record system.
  • Collaborate with Health Center Managers and staff to meet clinic goals, productivity benchmarks, and assigned tasks.
  • Provide patient-centered care and ensure smooth and efficient patient and clinic flow processes.
  • May assist the physician with one or more of the following clinical procedures: medical abortion, surgical abortion, ultrasound, vasectomies, colposcopies, and biopsies.
  • Perform lab tests according to protocols.
  • Proficient in wet mount preparation, collection of Pap Smear and other specimens, and accurately identifies wet prep organisms.
  • Properly handle and label all specimens, including disposal.
  • Administer medication and insert/remove long-acting reversible contraception per protocols.
  • Stay up to date on reproductive health care developments and maintain CEU requirements for required licensure and certification.
  • Maintain busy clinic flow, helps other staff as needed. Willingness to work with patients as requested.
  • Meet quality assurance requirements, including the appropriate dispensing of medications.
  • Serves as a resource for clinical staff and provides back-up to the Chief Medical Officer as needed.
  • Initiate problem-solving to ensure smooth health center flow.
  • Serve as a telephone resource person for patient or medical information calls.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and meet compliance requirements, including HIPAA.
  • Meet coding and documentation requirements.
  • Train/evaluate all staff on CLIA/Laboratory process.
