This role is for a Lead Clinical Laboratory Technologist to join the team, assisting the Supervisor and assuming supervisory duties as needed to oversee daily performance of the department's testing. The role involves assigning workload, troubleshooting assay and customer issues, reviewing maintenance and quality control, and acting as a department trainer. The ideal candidate will be able to identify and solve problems, promote teamwork, communicate effectively, and expand the department's services. Technically, the role supports the detection, diagnosis, and treatment of disease through laboratory testing, performing tests with independent judgment and responsibility.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or Biomedical Sciences consistent with NY State guidelines (NAACLS ACCREDITED, ASCP or NCA Eligible)
NYS License
4 years hospital experience required
Prior lead or supervisory experience preferred
Ability to access problems
Ability to promote a positive team spirit
Ability to communicate with clients
Ability to work with the management to expand the General Laboratory Department scope of services
Technically able to aid in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of disease through lab testing
Performs test pursuant to established and approved protocols requiring the exercise of independent judgment and responsibility

Demonstrates initiative with strong ability to Identify, analyze, and solve problems
Prioritizes assignments and meets deadlines effectively and efficiently

Responsibilities

Oversee daily performance of all aspects of department testing.
Assign workload to staff members.
Act as a resource to troubleshoot assay problems.
Troubleshoot customer (clinician/patient) calls.
Review Preventive Maintenance, Quality Control, and assay performance.
Act as department trainer.
Assist methods development team when needed.
Access problems, promote a positive team spirit, and communicate with clients.
Work with management to expand the General Laboratory Department scope of services.
Aid in the detection, diagnosis, and treatment of disease through lab testing.
