About The Position

NeoGenomics is looking for a Lead Clinical Laboratory Technologist for our FISH department in Houston, TX who wants to continue to learn in order to allow our company to grow. The Lead Technologist works under little or no supervision and demonstrates proficiency in all Core Responsibilities of a Clinical Laboratory Technologist III. This is the advanced level for the Technologist job category responsible for assisting the department supervisor/manager, participating in training all laboratory personnel, and coordinating and reviewing the work of assigned staff in addition to performing the full range of clinical testing procedures. The Lead Technologist typically leads 5+ employees; may lead fewer than 5 employees depending on the size of the department and/or site.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in one of the chemical, physical, or biological sciences with the addition of 1+ years of laboratory experience/training/training course
  • Nationally: ASCP certification for the assigned specialty, as available
  • FL: current state license to perform laboratory testing
  • CA: current state license to perform laboratory testing
  • TN: current state license to perform laboratory testing
  • Advanced understanding of general laboratory techniques with emphasis on department specific techniques
  • Good visual acuity including color perception required for certain departments
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds

  • 6+ Years of equivalent experience (high complexity testing) Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates proficiency in all Core Responsibilities of a Clinical Laboratory Technologist III
  • Assists in supervising technical personnel by monitoring workflow to meet testing schedules; distributing and reviewing work assignments; scheduling; training employees on company and laboratory policies, procedures, techniques, and on equipment; resolving work related problems of staff; and providing input for performance appraisals and disciplinary actions
  • Leads and implements project improvements within the department
  • Assists the Laboratory Supervisor/Manager with the documentation and daily completion of performance verification criteria of tests, reagents and equipment as requested
  • Reviews QA and QC records in accordance with departmental procedures and reports all problems to the Laboratory Supervisor/Manager
  • Works closely with Supervisor in the monitoring and correction of trends and problems in equipment operation, reagent usage and test procedures performance
  • Performs advanced troubleshooting skills and works closely with the Laboratory Supervisor/Manager to maintain a proper working environment and resolving trends and problems associated with equipment operation, reagent usage and test procedure performance
  • Generates incident reports when appropriate and enters corrective action taken to achieve resolution on appropriate QC sheets
  • Recommends and institutes corrective action promptly, if not immediately, following a qualified incident, potential problems, or corporate recommendation, and approved by the Director of the Director’s delegate
  • Expedites workflow to maximize capacity by evaluating systems and recommending enhancements; as a team player offers feedback to achieve resolution of production problems/issues involving other departments
  • Reviews department activities to ensure compliance with departmental polices and federal, state and local regulations
  • Assists with the departments’ annual competency testing process and documentation
  • May work with supervisor to head up the validation processes through documentation and development of procedural operations for new tests or new lots following manufacturer’s guidelines and/or established department SOP’s
  • May serve as a technical resource for the department by investigating and resolving analytical testing problems, recommending a course of action in instances identified as beyond acceptable limits, and responding to non-routine/complex inquires and/or requests from clients and sales representatives
  • Ensures departmental training checklists and SOP’s are updated at all times to reflect current laboratory procedures
  • Promptly and courteously answers the phone and assists clients and other departments with their inquiries
  • May serve as the Safety Officer
  • Perform other duties as assigned by department Supervisor / Manager or Laboratory Director
