About The Position

The Valley Health System is an integrated health network serving over two million people in Southern Nevada, including Valley Hospital Medical Center, Centennial Hills Hospital Medical Center, Spring Valley Hospital Medical Center, Summerlin Hospital Medical Center Henderson Hospital, Valley Health Specialty Hospital, and West Henderson Hospital. This position, under the supervision of the Regional Manager CDI, is responsible for managing the day-to-day workflow and operations of the Clinical Documentation Integrity Program for GME and medical staff education. The role also involves providing clinically based concurrent and retrospective review of inpatient medical records to evaluate the utilization and documentation of acute care services. A key goal is to facilitate appropriate physician documentation to accurately reflect patient severity of illness and risk of mortality. Reviews are guided by internal standards and external payer or regulatory agency requirements, significantly impacting quality of care outcomes and accurate, compliant reimbursement for acute care services.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in nursing OR Graduate of a domestic/international school of medicine
  • For Registered Nurse: A minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience in an acute care setting
  • For Registered Nurse or Domestic/International Medical Graduate: A minimum of 1-year previous clinical documentation integrity experience
  • Knowledge of the Prospective Payment System and Diagnosis Related Group selection, assignment and optimization
  • Computer proficiency to include word processing, databases, and spreadsheets
  • Familiarity with the operation of basic office equipment
  • Basic competence in use of electronic health records and other CDI/Coding software applications
  • If Registered Nurse: Current RN license in their state of residence
  • Strong broad-based clinical knowledge and understanding of pathology/physiology of disease processes
  • Knowledge of age-specific needs and elements of disease processes and related procedures
  • Working knowledge of inpatient admission criteria
  • Working knowledge of Medicare reimbursement system and coding systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work independently in a time-oriented environment

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing
  • For Registered Nurse: Clinical experience in critical care, surgical or emergency department nursing
  • For Registered Nurse: 2-3 years of previous clinical documentation integrity experience
  • For Domestic/International Medical Graduate: 2-3 years of previous clinical documentation integrity experience
  • For Domestic/International Medical Graduate: Minimum of 1-year management experience
  • Preferred certifications: CDIP, CCDS, CCS and/or ICD-10 Certification or Trainer designation
