About The Position

Under the general guidance of the Intake Coordinator, Health Coordinator and Director of Detox Services, the Lead Clinical Aide provides supervisory leadership for the clinical aide team. The Lead Clinical Aide will additionally perform a variety of patient care interventions leading to the management and structuring of the therapeutic milieu. Clinical Aides, including the Lead Clinical Aide, also assist with the non-nursing portion of the patient admission to create a positive patient experience. Lead Clinical Aides are responsible for obtaining patient information and providing guidance on clinic procedures. Aides may also be required to perform minor diagnostic procedures and to sterilize equipment.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or higher
  • Diploma, Certificate, or Associate's Degree in Medical Assisting, or similar.
  • A minimum of one year supervisory experience in a behavioral health environment
  • A minimum of one year working in a chemical dependency facility strongly preferred
  • A compassionate understanding of chemical dependence as a disease; preference to persons in recovery from chemical dependency.
  • Valid New York State Driver’s License, acceptable driving record and be able to operate a company vehicle without restriction.
  • New York State Certified Nursing Assistant a plus
  • Experience with clinical procedures such as specimen collection and diagnostic testing.
  • Strong communication skills with medical and clinical practitioners
  • Basic Knowledge of healthcare practices, standards, and medical terminology.
  • Experience using an electronic health record and ability to accurately record in a progress note
  • Proficient in basic computer skills that include using email, Microsoft Word and data entry
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to assist and reassure patients.
  • Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks as directed by healthcare professionals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership for the clinical aide team, offering guidance, addressing grievance, assisting with training, strengthening the therapeutic skills of the clinical aide team, scheduling shifts and providing coverage as necessary to meet the minimum staff coverage ratios.
  • Performs a variety of patient care procedures which may include measuring patient vital signs (weight, height, blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and temperature).
  • Manages the non-nursing portion of the patient admission such as the handling of belongings and searches.
  • Obtains admission urine tests and performs other screening/testing per unit policy.
  • Orients patient to the unit and rooming patient.
  • Creates a positive experience by welcoming and assisting patients.
  • Promotes patient safety by maintaining a clean and hygienic environment.
  • Mediates between patients and healthcare providers.
  • Guides patients through the program’s various facilities and procedures.
  • Sterilizes medical equipment and sanitizes designated areas.
  • Provides some housekeeping such as preparing rooms for admission and assisting with patient laundry.
  • Serves as a nurse’s aide by assisting the nursing staff as needed, including getting drinks and/or food for patients.
  • May, on occasion, transport clients as necessary to other healthcare facilities.
