Lead Civil Engineer -- Energy & Industrial Group
About The Position
The Lead Civil Engineer will work in a multidisciplinary team designing, modifying, and analyzing power plants, substations, transmission lines, and similar heavy industrial systems. The position performs civil site development work for power plant projects, including calculations, designs, and specifications, and coordinates with project managers, clients, contractors, suppliers, and permitting agencies to deliver complete and timely designs. Depending on project scope and complexity, the engineer may guide other civil engineers and designers. The role is based on a hybrid schedule requiring in-office work three days per week, with occasional travel to client sites for design reviews, construction coordination, and field verification. The position requires a B.S. in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program, a PE license, and at least ten years of relevant project-team experience. Power plant experience is preferred.
Requirements
- B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission-approved program.
- PE license required.
- Ten or more years working in a project team environment designing heavy industrial projects.
- Specific experience in site grading and mass earthwork, storm water management, sanitary sewage systems, process wastewater systems, and road and railroad track design.
- Experience in technical writing for reports, calculations, and civil engineering specifications.
- Experience preparing, submitting, and obtaining site-related design and environmental permits from a wide variety of regulatory agencies.
- Proficiency with one or more of AutoDesk Civil 3D, StormCad, PondPack, and AutoTurn.
- Proficiency with MS Office applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Occasional travel to client sites is required.

- Interest in learning and effectively using emerging technologies where relevant to the role; experience with AI, automation, programming, or similar technologies is valued but not required.
Responsibilities
- Perform civil site development work for power plant projects, including calculations, designs, and specifications.
- Coordinate with project managers, client personnel, contractors, suppliers, and permitting agency personnel to ensure complete and timely designs.
- Guide other civil engineers and civil designers on project work as appropriate to project scope and complexity.
- Prepare calculations for storm water drainage, sanitary sewer systems, pavement thickness, ponds and landfills, and earthwork to support design and permitting.
- Prepare technical specifications defining construction requirements.
- Prepare site layout, grading, and drainage designs, and work with designers to represent designs in 3-D models and design drawings.
- Design storm drainage systems, roads, trackwork, water storage and wastewater disposal ponds, and solid waste landfills.
- Review contractor and material submittal drawings and vendor documentation for conformity with technical specifications.
- Travel occasionally to client offices and sites for design reviews, construction coordination, and field verification of designs.
