About The Position

This role leads the work of civil designers and drafters for a project, focusing on the preparation of layouts, study drawings, detailed 2-D and 3-D Computer Aided Design (CAD) design models, and construction drawings. The Lead Civil Designer will develop designs for complete and complex civil engineering systems such as earthwork, drainage, and road design with minimal supervision. Responsibilities include assisting with the preparation of material requisitions and bid evaluations, monitoring work for compliance with approved civil design standards, and participating in constructability reviews. The role also involves preparing design and drafting procedures, coordinating jobsite visits to resolve problems, reviewing civil design scope changes, and ensuring designs comply with all applicable codes and regulations. Collaboration is key in planning, developing, coordinating, and reviewing project civil design work, including producing drawings, facilitating discussions, communicating complex technical issues, and preparing civil design estimates and work plans.

Requirements

Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience.
Experienced in 3D modelling of Site earthworks, drainage, roads, etc.
Expert in use of Civil modelling software such as Civil3D and/or OpenRoads Designer.
Experience with preparing Quantity takeoffs of Civil materials.
Ability to attend in-person at least three days per week at the assigned office or project.

Responsibilities

Leads the work of civil designers and drafters for a project to include the preparation of layouts, study drawings, detailed 2-D and 3-D Computer Aided Design (CAD) design models and construction drawings.
Develops designs for complete and complex civil engineering systems such as earthwork, drainage and road design with minimum supervision from which detailed scale models and/or construction drawings are completed.
Assists in constructing detailed scale models.
Prepares or assists with the preparation of assigned material requisitions and bid evaluations.
Monitors and checks work for compliance with approved civil design standards to provide quality design, reliable/safe plant operation and construction economy.
Participates in constructability reviews.
Prepares design and drafting procedures to standardize design effort.
Coordinates or makes jobsite visits, as required, to resolve problems and interpret drawings and documents.
Reviews civil design scope changes, as required, for project management.
Ensures civil systems designs comply with all applicable installation codes, regulations, and standard.
Collaborates to plan, develop, coordinate, and review project civil design work.
Produces drawings, facilitates discussions, communicates complex technical issues, and prepares civil design estimates and work plans.
