About The Position

The candidate selected for this role will coordinate implementation of current improvement projects: -Deployment of Palo Alto firewalls to Fire Stations throughout the region -Configuring OSPF and BGP routing changes to decrease failover times -Increasing resiliency and security of the CAD network -Participates in a 24/7 on-call standby rotation to support the operational needs of PFD. -Is a Driving position requiring driving to customer sites for field support activities. -Mileage reimbursement

Requirements

  • planning, design, and maintenance of a large network.
  • configuration/management/troubleshooting of Cisco IOS and Cisco Nexus devices.
  • configuration/management/troubleshooting of Palo Alto Networks Next Generation Firewalls and Panorama
  • routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, EIGRP.
  • point-to-point VPNs, IPsec, and NAT.
  • implementing Quality of Service (QoS)
  • coordinating copper and fiber premise cabling installation and troubleshooting
  • supervising and directing the activities of a small team consisting of full-time and contract employees.
  • supporting 24/7 critical operations, preferably in a Public Safety environment
  • Splunk, ServiceNow, Jira, and SolarWinds Orion

Nice To Haves

  • CCNP, Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Firewall Engineer, or similar industry certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and manage Cisco Catalyst, Cisco Nexus, Palo Alto Networks based network infrastructure, including routers, switches and firewalls for Fire Department’s CAD network
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues, ensuring high availability and performance of the network.
  • Perform network configurations, upgrades, and patch management on network devices.
  • Monitor network performance and conduct routine network health checks to identify and mitigate issues proactively.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to network engineers and other team members.
  • Collaborate and foster relationships with other City departments to support network-related projects, deployment of new services, and technologies including management of third-party vendors.
  • Conduct capacity planning, performance analysis, and assist in the development of network scalability strategies.
  • Work with network monitoring tools to track and analyze network traffic and performance metrics.
  • Ensure network security best practices are followed and recommend enhancements to safeguard the network from vulnerabilities and threats.
  • Works on-site at Fire and Partner facilities located throughout the metro area to perform/coordinate equipment installation/repair and define needs for copper and fiber premise cabling and access control/CCTV systems.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation on network architecture, configurations, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Provides excellent customer service for, including communicating with and managing expectations of, Fire Department staff, vendors, stakeholders and partners.
  • Assists the IT Manager in developing annual operating budget and Capital Improvement Plan for network infrastructure components.
  • Performs other duties as related to information technology systems.
