The Lead Chassis Mechanic serves as the senior technical resource for the chassis maintenance operation. This position is responsible for performing advanced diagnostics, preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs on chassis equipment. The role involves helping prioritize daily repairs, coordinating work with the Fleet Maintenance Manager, and providing technical guidance and informal mentoring to other mechanics. The Lead Chassis Mechanic will troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, brake, suspension, lighting, and structural issues, monitor repair progress, and communicate equipment status to maintenance and operations teams. This position also coordinates parts needs to minimize downtime, completes work orders and maintenance records using management software, and inspects completed repairs to ensure quality and DOT standards. Additionally, the role identifies recurring equipment issues, recommends solutions, promotes a safe shop environment, and supports projects for operational efficiency. This is a hands-on lead role without direct supervisory responsibility.
