This role provides technical support to the OR Staff through planning, coordinating, maintaining, and controlling all operating room equipment, materials and instruments. It involves training OR staff on proper equipment use, collaborating with various teams for equipment coordination, and managing equipment maintenance and repairs. The position also requires functioning as a Surgical Technologist as needed, providing functional or technical supervision, onboarding new staff and students, and managing inventory levels in collaboration with management. Additionally, the role assists with preference card development, establishes instrument set protocols, collaborates on instrument set revisions, and evaluates material usage to identify cost reduction opportunities. It also involves researching and evaluating new products, acting as a liaison between Central Sterile and OR staff, and creating equipment reference manuals. The Lead Certified Surgical Technologist conducts in-service training, serves as a resource for equipment and instrumentation, and is responsible for the orientation and precepting of new employees. Effective communication with surgeons, office staff, OR staff, ancillary departments, and management regarding case scheduling, special orders, and equipment issues is crucial. The role involves processing special schedule requests, reviewing future schedules, and communicating any constraints to the scheduling system. It also includes organizing and planning for scheduled cases, checking case carts for completeness, ensuring special order materials are available, and assisting with equipment setup and operation while promoting minimal lapse time between patients.
