About The Position

This is a working lead position that coordinates the scheduling and efforts of the Cath Lab Technologists. The role involves training and mentoring staff, providing technical and patient support, and ensuring patient care. The Lead Cath Lab Tech communicates continuously with the physician about patient condition, assists during invasive and noninvasive procedures, and operates all equipment safely and correctly. Responsibilities include assessing the procedure room for equipment functioning and readiness, obtaining necessary supplies, and ensuring all needs of the Cardiac Cath Laboratory team are met. The position participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities and is responsible for on-call procedures when indicated. In the absence of a Supervisor/Director, this position oversees the Cath Lab Techs to ensure efficient and effective unit operation. The Technician is authorized to be in the presence of medications.

Requirements

  • Completion of formal two year radiologic technology training in AMA approved school which meets requirements for registry by the ARRT or equivalent on-the-job training including a minimum of four months orientation.
  • Must attend EKG, Hemodynamics, IABP classes within four months of hire.
  • One - three years of experience in an acute health care Special Procedures setting or Cardiac Catheterization Lab.
  • Current Arizona Registered Radiologic Technologist (ARRT-CV).
  • Current BLS.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the cleanup of room following procedure to include appropriate disposal of used supplies, handling of instruments, returning and restocking of supplies.
  • Participates in the restocking, resupplying and cleaning of the support areas.
  • Assists in positioning, prepping and draping of patients for procedures.
  • Gives patient explanations and verbal reassurances consistently.
  • Sets up and scrubs for procedures in a timely manner that allows the patient to come into the room 5 minutes prior to schedule start time.
  • Maintains aseptic technique when opening sterile supplies, setting up procedures and during all invasive procedures.
  • Operates all equipment safely and correctly.
  • Performs preventative maintenance as needed.
  • Ensures proper functioning prior to each procedure.
  • Ability to work as a team member, assists physicians and assists the with the interpretations of data collected.
  • Able to scrub, circulate and operate in the control room for all procedures in the Cardiac Cath Laboratory.
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  • Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for the patients age.
  • Assures radiation safety and monitoring.
  • Other related job tasks or responsibilities as assigned.
