About The Position

Perform skilled carpentry services while leading structural construction and repair projects. Provide training, guidance, and direction to assigned staff to ensure high-quality workmanship. Ensure compliance with accessibility requirements, health and safety regulations, and applicable codes. Coordinate and oversee project activities to meet timelines and trade standards. Support team performance by monitoring work progress and promoting safe, efficient practices.

Requirements

  • Criminal background check and fingerprinting required
  • High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma plus vocational or technical training after high school, or equivalent experience, resulting in journeyman level expertise in related trade.
  • Four (4) years of relevant experience in a related trade
  • Colorado driver’s license
  • Colorado Class 'R' driver's license
  • Subject to District needs, employees may be required to obtain AHERA Worker Certification and maintain current certification as a condition of continued employment
  • Journeyman certification in carpentry or related trade
  • Must meet insurability requirements of the Colorado School District self-insurance pool
  • Basic knowledge of work order management system and Oracle required within one (1) month after hire
  • Basic ability to understand documents, define problems and draw valid conclusions. Ability to read blueprints, shop drawings, vendor submittals and provide informative input to Construction Management for any new construction, updates and remodels
  • Requires ability to perform math computations needed in trade; ability to read blueprints; basic building code knowledge as it relates to work in the related trade
  • Requires knowledge and skill in the use of forklifts, scissor lift, and hand and power tools required in the related trade
  • Requires basic computer-related skills. Must be proficient in the use of various computing devices necessary for operating District applications including Outlook, Oracle, Google and Microsoft Office, and work order system
  • Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers and Microsoft Office

Responsibilities

  • Attends meetings, workshops, and/or in-service training related to structural needs. Collaborates with stakeholders to complete work orders efficiently and in a timely manner. Communicates with immediate supervisor and staff to assist with the coordination and communication of day-to-day activities to ensure that projects are completed in a safe, proper, and timely manner, maximizing the efficiency of the workforce.
  • Maintains files and records to provide up to date reference and audit trail. Prepares written materials, reports, and documentation related to assigned activities and personnel.
  • Builds a wide variety of items (e.g., countertops, cabinets, shelving, moldings, ramps, storage units, partitions, closets, bulletin boards, stairways, etc.) to modify and/or adapt facilities to specific needs. Estimates materials for work orders as needed.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems; training employees; appraising performance; and assisting with hiring and disciplining. Acts as a technical resource to other trades and custodial personnel regarding problems associated with all structural elements in District buildings. Trains assigned personnel on procedures and related services, providing direction, and developing professional and safety awareness skills.
  • Monitors and maintains inventory of stock materials and orders additional items to ensure availability of items required to complete projects in a timely manner.
  • Assists other trades as needed.
  • Inspects contracted projects to ensure compliance with all District quality standards, safety practices, policies, and procedures. Reviews blueprints, shop drawings and cut sheets. Monitors and inspects the work of assigned staff and outside contractors to ensure projects are completed satisfactorily within district specifications and identifying preventive maintenance requirements.
  • Performs emergency services, after normal school hours, due to vandalism or accidents.
  • Subject to assignment to the district snow removal crew with duties including the operation of plow equipment on varying work shifts including nights and weekends.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
