POSITION SUMMARY: This position is a vital part of the construction team which designs, constructs, repairs and maintains structures using various types of materials and is responsible for the full range of rough and finished skilled carpentry work.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a carpenter in ICI construction (includes rough and finished carpentry)
  • Red Seal, interprovincial ticket or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to read and comprehend construction drawings
  • Must be open to performing physical activities (lifting equipment up to 50lbs)
  • Demonstrated ability to safely use manual tools and equipment
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including night shifts.
  • Willingness to commute to different job sites, as required

Nice To Haves

  • Level-2 first aid and fall protection certificate is an asset
  • Experience with formwork and concrete is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Design, construct, remodel, retrofit and repair interior and exterior structures made of wood, drywall, plaster, concrete or brick
  • Work with instructions and/or blue prints from Site Superintendent
  • Mentor for younger carpenters and apprentice carpenters.
  • Utilize chisels, planes saws, drills and sanders to repair and erect structures
  • Join materials with nails, screws, staples or adhesives
  • Comfortable working at heights
  • Check work progress to ensure that it meets quality standards, codes and specifications
  • Use levels, rules, framing squares, and surveying equipment to ensure everything is level and secure
  • Work with pre-fabricated buildings
  • Build stairs and other structures
  • Create structures for pouring concrete
  • Erect scaffolding
  • Install partitions, doors and windows
  • Ensure all safety standards are followed when working on construction job sites
