About The Position

The Education Fund is a non-profit partnership between six Locals of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and 22 Healthcare Industry employers, serving the education and training needs of 100,000 eligible workers. Our mission is to empower our diverse healthcare workforce to advance in a changing environment through innovative education and training solutions. Our program and budget have doubled in scale over the last five years to provide career advancement and continuing education services to 20,000 learners annually, and we are positioned for continued growth with new partners and funding. This role provides career and education counseling to SEIU members in Oregon, Washington, Nevada, and Colorado interested in advancing in the healthcare field. It also facilitates the implementation of education and training programs for healthcare workers represented by SEIU UHW-West and other union members eligible for Education Fund services. The position involves routine duties independently, setting priorities and scheduling work under the general direction of the Director/Assistant Director, requiring good judgment, follow-through, customer service, and management of priorities where failure to address issues on a timely basis could have a serious impact on the effective operation of the Education Fund. The work environment is a fast-paced office setting with frequent interruptions, requiring interaction with a diverse group of people and handling a variety of tasks. Work assignments often require travel to different and distant locations.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree required (A degree in career counseling or associated field is required).
  • Experience and knowledge of college prerequisites and requirements.
  • Knowledge of healthcare occupations and skill requirements.
  • Ability to conduct various forms of basic and vocational skills testing.
  • Ability to work with a diverse membership is essential.
  • Ability to actively listen and adapt to meet the needs of the learners.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and commitment to provide a positive experience for the learners.
  • Must be able to work independently and develop relationships with educational institutions, unions, and healthcare employers.
  • Must be committed to working within a labor-management partnership environment.
  • Flexible to accommodate changing work requirements.
  • Strong written, oral, Microsoft Office, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team.
  • Effective time management to build capacity for an increased caseload prior to program launches.
  • A valid driver’s license, insurance and automobile in good working order will be required.
  • Must be able to work in required time zones outside of California.
  • Ability to drive and move from one site to another for extended periods.
  • Ability to sit at a workstation for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 35 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a resource to new staff by supporting their onboarding and training.
  • Familiarize new staff with Education Fund systems as they relate to day-to-day tasks.
  • Facilitate and provide opportunities for new staff to shadow responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate service excellence and the culture of the Education Fund.
  • Provide guidance in Career, Education, and Job Readiness Counseling, Coaching, and Case Management to a diverse caseload of learners with various barriers.
  • Assess the interests, educational background, and career goals of eligible members and provide guidance on steps to achieve their goals.
  • Practice preferred Education Fund Coaching Methodology when engaging learners.
  • Refer those who do not meet criteria for specific training programs to explore other Ed Fund programs for program readiness.
  • Participate in the creation and facilitation of presentations/workshops for healthcare employees.
  • Support outreach and recruitment plans based on knowledge of employer facilities, their employees, work culture, union characteristics, and the labor-management environment.
  • Screen applicants for basic eligibility, collect and analyze relevant data.
  • Understand and communicate local labor market data (LMI) to provide career and educational guidance.
  • Remain current in all program details and processes to clearly communicate program details with learners.
  • Work with Education Fund staff to support learners while in the program and provide case management.
  • Perform all data entry and case management for learners in programs to ensure accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting.
  • Maintain member electronic files.
  • Document participation, completions (training certificates, credentials, degrees) and outcomes as necessary.
  • Pull caseload reports in Salesforce to ensure all learners are part of case management responsibilities.
  • Complete counseling sessions and learner calls that meet qualitative and quantitative organizational goals.
  • Proactively collect success stories from learners across programs.
  • Collaborate with program teams to review documents used for learners and the Career Advice team.
  • Review Salesforce reports and adjust as needed for the case management needs of the Career Advice Team.
  • Work on all program-related programs as requested.
  • Ensure all program documents are updated and available in the Salesforce library for the Career Advice team.
  • Provide ongoing mentorship to the Career Advice team by being readily available for team-based needs.
  • Onboard and train newly hired Career Counselors in a timely manner through shadowing and mentorship opportunities.
  • Effectively communicate with AD and department leaders to discuss regional learner needs and concerns.
