About The Position

National Development (ND) is looking for a full-time Lead Building Engineer reporting directly to the Chief Engineer. In this role, you will support our property management team in maintaining a portfolio of office and retail space in the MetroWest area. The ideal candidate must be skilled in all areas of general maintenance and must be physically able to perform maintenance tasks throughout the property. This position covers several assets and requires travel to other sites, so reliable transportation is required.

Requirements

  • Skilled in all areas of maintenance with expertise in HVAC, building maintenance, and engineering best practices.
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex issues efficiently.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Computer skills required, familiarity with Microsoft programs a plus.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with property managers, tenants, and colleagues.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work.
  • Physical ability to perform manual tasks and lift heavy equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • Valid REAL ID driver's license and clean driving record required.
  • Client service oriented attitude.
  • Self-motivated, independent individual desired.
  • Willingness to jump in, learning new tasks and systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in commercial property management is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Chief Engineer in the performance of all maintenance duties for the assigned portfolio.
  • Conduct general site, building, and mechanical room inspections to ensure cleanliness, safety, and environmental compliance of all systems, and that everything is maintained in a professional manner.
  • Conduct troubleshooting and diagnostics to identify issues and provide effective solutions.
  • Assist with preventative maintenance programs and ensure timely and efficient resolution of all work orders placed. This will include check-off lists, machinery history, safety inspection and test records.
  • Assist Chief Engineer in coordinating and overseeing building vendors and service contractors, including scheduling work, assigning tasks, and monitoring performance.
  • Communicate regularly with Chief Building Engineer and Property Manager regarding building operations, major system repairs, capital projects, and emergency situations.
  • Reliably manage emergency situations and address urgent work orders promptly (including on-call responsibilities).
  • Provide exceptional customer service and maintain professional conduct while interacting with tenants and team members.
