About The Position

The Senior / Lead Body Shop Technician serves as the highest-level technician within the body shop and is responsible for performing advanced collision repair, structural repairs, frame correction, panel replacement, and cosmetic restoration on vehicles. In addition to hands-on repair work, this position provides technical leadership, mentors junior technicians, assists with workflow management, and helps ensure repairs meet company, OEM, safety, and auction quality standards. This role is critical to maintaining production efficiency, repair quality, safety compliance, and customer satisfaction within a fast-paced automotive auction environment. This position is intended for highly skilled collision repair professionals who can both perform advanced repairs and provide leadership within a high-volume automotive body shop environment.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 5 years of body shop, collision repair, or automotive reconditioning experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of collision repair procedures and body shop equipment.
  • Ability to perform structural and non-structural repairs independently.
  • Strong welding and metal fabrication skills.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to safely operate vehicles with manual and automatic transmissions.
  • Expert understanding of automotive body construction and repair techniques.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret repair estimates, blueprints, and manufacturer repair procedures.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities.
  • Ability to work independently while supporting team objectives.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Frequently lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
  • Stand, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and reach for extended periods.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, welders, and shop equipment.
  • Work in varying indoor and outdoor environmental conditions.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Nice To Haves

  • 7+ years of collision repair experience.
  • Prior leadership, foreman, or lead technician experience.
  • Experience in automotive auction, dealership, fleet, or high-production environments.
  • OEM repair training and certifications.
  • ASE Collision Repair Certification(s).
  • I-CAR Platinum or equivalent industry certifications.
  • Frame machine and measuring system certification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced collision and body repairs on passenger vehicles, trucks, SUVs, and specialty units.
  • Diagnose structural and cosmetic damage and determine appropriate repair methods.
  • Perform frame and unibody measuring, straightening, and alignment operations.
  • Remove and replace damaged body panels, components, and assemblies.
  • Conduct metal repair, panel straightening, welding, cutting, and fabrication as required.
  • Complete panel fitment, body preparation, and finishing work to company standards.
  • Coordinate with paint technicians to ensure proper repair preparation and quality outcomes.
  • Operate frame machines, welders, measuring systems, and specialized body repair equipment.
  • Ensure repairs meet OEM specifications and industry best practices.
  • Serve as the technical lead for body shop operations.
  • Mentor and train entry-level and intermediate technicians.
  • Assist management with assigning daily work and prioritizing repairs.
  • Monitor repair quality and provide guidance on complex repairs.
  • Support productivity goals by helping maintain efficient shop workflow.
  • Promote a positive, team-oriented work environment focused on safety and quality.
  • Assist with onboarding and skills development of new technicians.
  • Conduct final quality inspections on completed repairs.
  • Ensure all repairs meet auction, customer, and company standards.
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
  • Identify and report equipment maintenance needs.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work area.
  • Properly handle and dispose of hazardous materials according to regulatory requirements.
  • Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.
