About The Position

The Lead Behavioral Instructor (BI) will utilize the Teaching Family Model to teach youth social skills. This role involves preventive teaching, effective praise, corrective teaching, intensive teaching (tantrum management), and self-government practices like house meetings and problem-solving. The BI will also manage motivation systems, including point card management and tallying. In physical interventions, the lead BI typically acts as the team leader and must use only approved Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) techniques. The position requires adherence to all policies and procedures, timely and accurate documentation, and effective communication with supervisors and the treatment team. The role also involves providing guidance to youth on maintaining neat and clean work areas and offering on-site supervision and feedback to other BIs in collaboration with a consultant. Maintaining current employee requirements, including annual orientation, CPR, First Aid, CPI, and S&R, is essential. The role also requires completing required annual in-service hours and keeping work areas tidy.

Requirements

At least twenty-one (21) years of age.
A minimum of 60 hours required.
Ability to document accurately and professionally.
Possesses the ability to understand and implement extensive training and to apply that training to the implementation of a comprehensive program of care for patients.
Ability to perform physical demands required by Crisis Prevention Intervention Training.
Possess a valid Arkansas Driver’s License.
Must be eligible to be insured to drive MFH vehicles.
Must be physically capable to receive verbal and written directions.
Must be physically able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time.
Must be willing and able to work with all patients of Methodist Family Health, regardless of gender.
Must be certified in the Teaching Family Model.
Must have good auditory, visual and olfactory ability.
Requires the ability to sit and stand for long periods of time and intermittently walk, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch and reach with hands and arms.
Use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls.
Must be able to maintain effective audio, visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, communicating with others, and reading and writing, and operating office equipment and other treatment equipment.
Must be able to use a telephone to communicate verbally and a computer to communicate through written means, to review information and enter/retrieve data, to see and read characters on a computer screen, chart or other treatment items.
Requires the strength and stamina to perform clinical duties.
Flu vaccination is mandatory and required for all positions (subject only to qualified exemptions).

Nice To Haves

College Graduate preferred.
Experience working with “at-risk” youth or other populations with special needs preferred.
Ability as a self-motivator and the aptitude to work in a high stress fast paced position with a minimal amount of supervision.

Responsibilities

Utilize the Teaching Family Model to teach youth social skills, including preventive teaching, effective praise, corrective teaching, intensive teaching (tantrum management), and self-government (house meetings, green cards, peer manager, problem solving).
Manage motivation systems, such as point card management and facilitating tally up.
Use only approved Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) when engaging in physical crisis intervention, often acting as the team leader in such situations.
Follow all policies and procedures, including the departmental attendance policy.
Complete all required documentation on time and accurately, including transition notes, critical incident reports, restraint/seclusion forms, observation and rounds, treatment plans, fire and disaster drills, and security checklists.
Use consultation services to seek and implement feedback.
Communicate effectively with supervisors and the treatment team.
Maintain a professional and positive attitude.
Maintain current employee requirements (annual orientation, CPR, 1st Aid, CPI, S&R, etc.).
Complete required annual in-service hours as specified by RTC policy.
Keep all work areas neat and clean, and provide guidance to youth to ensure they keep their areas neat and clean.
Provide on-sight supervision, guidance, and feedback if necessary, to other BIs in collaboration with the consultant.
Complete other related tasks as assigned by supervisors.
