About The Position

East 5th Coffee is a neighborhood coffee concept at Padel39 in East Austin, aiming to provide a warm, third-space environment for the community and Padel39 members. The focus is on hospitality and creating a welcoming atmosphere, with great coffee as a fundamental requirement. The role involves opening the coffee shop, leading shifts, and setting a standard for the team and guest experience. The Barista Lead is responsible for building the culture, developing baristas, and maintaining an inviting environment. This position is seen as foundational to the East 5th Coffee brand.

Requirements

• Two or more years in a hospitality leadership role (coffee, cafe, or restaurant)
• Genuine warmth with guests and a service instinct
• Experience in training and developing hourly staff
• Working knowledge of espresso-based beverage preparation and cafe operations
• Reliable and organized
• Ability to read the room, adjust on the fly, and understand great guest experience
• Familiarity with POS systems and scheduling tools (Union POS and 7shifts are a plus)

Responsibilities

• On-shift leadership of the East 5th Coffee barista team
• Training and development of new and existing baristas
• Shift documentation and communication to management through the 7shifts logbook
• Labor flow and real-time coverage decisions in coordination with the AGM
• Ensuring beverage quality and consistency across the full East 5th menu (espresso drinks, matcha, tea, and smoothies)
• Managing the guest experience from entry to exit
• Equipment operation and daily maintenance
• Maintaining food display, freshness, and presentation for Rockman Bakery wholesale items
• Ensuring a clean, organized, and inviting physical environment
• Completing opening and closing procedures correctly each shift
• Product monitoring and ordering communication to the AGM
• Inventory support and invoice recording
• Maintaining health, safety, and food handling compliance
