About The Position

Oversees servicing, repairing, and overall maintenance of aircraft avionics to verify aircrafts are safe for flight. Ensures compliance to all FAA maintenance regulations and requirements. The Lead Avionics Technician is responsible to the Manager, Maintenance Operations for the overall utilization of his area, to include the supervision of production personnel.

Requirements

  • High School/GED
  • Generally, at least 8 years of experience or greater in area of responsibility
  • Advanced Knowledge of all possible tasks and responsibilities within their technical area as well as a strong understanding of External Regulations and Functional Work Standards that affect Technical Requirements and Outputs.
  • Role takes leadership for applying new processes and skills to improve the Technician Function Status Quo.
  • Strong knowledge of aircraft electrical / electronic components, systems and functions.
  • Interpret and comprehend aircraft technical documentation – metric system
  • Electronic/Avionic Troubleshooting skills
  • Team worker
  • Ability to work in a safe professional manner adhering to Embraer Standards and all regulatory requirements including, OSHA, EPA, State and Federal regulations.
  • As required by the position, must have the ability to wear a respirator as per OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134 "Respirator Protection" regulations with no restrictions that would prevent the proper use and/or seal of the respirator.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and different shifts if required
  • Employees will be subject to the random drug and alcohol testing under FAA regulations

Responsibilities

  • Ensure safe work practices are followed.
  • Plan, direct and coordinate the activities of his areas so as to minimize delays, and increase production and efficiency.
  • Plan, bid, and delegate job / task duties under the department for scheduled maintenance functions, drop-in maintenance also to include back shop tasks.
  • Research future electrical/avionic service bulletin, A.D.’s, STC’s, & installations with regards to tooling, manpower, material needs and promote up-selling with maintenance and avionic sales manager.
  • Coordinate with other department leads in future and ongoing production to aid in the workflow process.
  • Provide training, and to assist subordinates in the proper procedures, methods and practices to be followed in each respective duty.
  • Make available to personnel the necessary overhaul manuals, service bulletins, airworthiness directive and other required technical data.
  • Maintain all equipment and tools in a serviceable and working condition.
  • Ascertain that all necessary work records are properly executed by the responsible person.
  • Properly handle all parts while in repair process.
  • Preserve all units or parts during process through the facility and after work is completed.
  • Initiate requisitions for stock and materials as required.
  • Perform routine or special maintenance inspections to prevent failure of aircraft electrical and avionics systems and components.
  • Perform complete operational and functional checks on navigation, communication and flight control systems, including instrumentation and pilot static installations, etc.
  • Fabricate wiring harnesses, install/modify avionic and electrical systems.
  • Determine when a component should be repaired or replaced; decide upon necessary repair scheme and quantity and type of parts needed to accomplish proper repair; secure same from Stores or departmental supplies.
  • Follow approved maintenance procedures for subject component or system, consulting internal procedures that have been FAA approved, original equipment manufacturers (OEM's) technical data, and work package instructions.
  • Inspect completed work before signing off to identify any needed rework and perform rework; ensure that repaired components meet prescribed standards and tolerances.
  • Perform serviceability tests on repaired components/systems using test equipment specified by the original equipment manufacturer.
  • Complete work package documentation by signing/stamping off after finishing all designated operations.
  • Perform installation of digital avionic equipment.
  • Interpret avionic/electrical wiring diagrams, wire identification, harness fabrication, wiring and cable integrity, coax cables and fittings and connector assemblies.
  • Adjust, repair, or replace malfunctioning components or assemblies, using hand tools and soldering iron.
  • Install electrical and electronic components, assemblies, and systems in aircraft, using hand tools, power tools, and soldering iron.
  • Interpret flight test data to diagnose malfunctions and systemic performance problems.
  • Set up and operate ground support and test equipment to perform functional flight test of electrical and electronic systems.
  • Test components or assemblies, using circuit tester, oscilloscope, and voltmeter.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, rework, and modify worn or defective assemblies, components or systems.
