About The Position

Hermeus is a venture-backed defense aviation company focused on rapid iterative prototyping to build the fastest aircraft in the world. They work with the Department of War to provide high-speed capabilities. The company is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Avionics Engineer to join their dynamic team and contribute to the development of next-generation hypersonic vehicles. As a Lead Avionics Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in leading the design, analysis, and testing of electrical systems for these vehicles. You will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers to ensure the safe and efficient operation of electrical systems. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on groundbreaking technology in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in multiple of the following areas: electrical hardware design, control systems, instrumentation and signal conditioning, digital communication busses, analog design and simulation, power electronics, harness design
  • 1+ years leading a technical engineering team.

Nice To Haves

  • Breadth of experience across various electrical technical fields including RF, digital, analog, and video systems
  • Demonstrated project experience with embedded design, device integration, V&V, environmental qualification and/or flight testing
  • Hands-on experience designing, building, and/or servicing electrical power distribution systems and/or networks
  • Familiarity with test and simulation tools (DMM, Oscilloscope, power supplies, SPICE, Ansys)
  • Experience with electrical and mechanical design and version control software (Altium Designer, Siemens NX, Teamcenter, Capital Harness, Git, Teamcenter)
  • Experience with avionics devices and protocols (RS-485, ARINC-685, FPGAs, GPS, INS, D38999 style connectors, etc.)
  • Strong analysis and troubleshooting skills
  • Familiarity with aerospace industry standards (IPC-620, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-704, MIL-HDBK-516C, MIL-STD-464D, DO-160G)
  • Experience working with DC power systems (Batteries, Motors, Generators, etc.)
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills
  • Writing software in Python or similar for analysis or data review
  • A bias towards action, and a willingness to work hands-on to make it happen

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership across the organization, manage related risk and change across the program, drive new technology introduction, and provide mentoring for less senior engineers.
  • Drive system trades, requirements capture, component selection, analysis, schematic capture, prototyping, bring-up, debugging, documentation, manufacturing, and test.
  • Create development and qualification testing campaigns and exercise designs to their limits.
  • Support hardware through production, integration, and flight.
  • Work with experts from other teams and departments to drive changes that make the system more efficient, manufacturable, and reliable. Challenge assumptions and build strong professional relationships.
