Requirements

  • 5 or more years of dedicated, hands-on experience programming and integrating ABB robotic arms within complex, custom automation settings
  • 2+ years of robust, fluid proficiency utilizing ABB RobotStudio for virtual simulations and writing native RAPID code from scratch
  • 2+ years of proven experience interfacing robotics with industrial PLC systems (Allen-Bradley Studio 5000 / RSLogix preferred)
  • 2+ years of deep technical familiarity with motion control hardware, vision systems, fieldbus networks (EtherNet/IP, PROFINET), and safety protocols
  • Complete willingness and valid credentials to travel up to 30% internationally and domestically for client startups
  • A reliable, rock-solid professional history showing consecutive tenure—our client seeks a foundational engineering leader to grow with the firm
  • Must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Automation, Electrical, or Mechanical) OR possess equivalent expert-level field experience
  • Must be a US Citizen or Green Card holder residing within a 45-minute drive of the Waukesha area

Responsibilities

  • Developing, simulating, and optimizing complex robotic programs from scratch using ABB RobotStudio and RAPID code structures
  • Owning the full project lifecycle, seamlessly bridging the gap between initial 3D digital simulation, testing, debugging, and live field commissioning
  • Configuring initial robot setups, spatial coordinate systems, payload settings, and integrating multi-axis systems with complex PLC networks
  • Serving as the Lead Technical SME to troubleshoot and resolve intricate robotic logic, motion control, and communication interface errors
  • Partnering closely with cross-functional mechanical and controls teams to design custom end-of-arm tooling (EOAT) and machine safety parameters
  • Traveling up to 30% annually (both domestically and internationally) to manage high-visibility on-site installations, final line integration, and customer handoffs
  • Generating and maintaining meticulous system documentation, wiring schematics, and functional program architectures
