About The Position

The Lead Automation Engineer brings highly technical experience in designing, implementing, and improving Automation systems within the fulfillment network. This role works closely with functional stakeholders, vendors, and other engineers to solve ambiguous problems autonomously. You will be the principal point of contact with external vendors and system integrators to develop automated order fulfillment solutions utilizing top industry technology such as AMRs, Robotics, ASRS, sortation systems, etc. You will lead the design effort for implementing new technology within a distribution center, including creating detailed Requests for Quotes (RFQs) and requirements documentation to ensure a cohesive end-to-end design. You will lead data analytic efforts for designing and measuring success for Automation projects, with an ability to extract clear and concise outputs from messy inputs. Strong experience with optimizing Distribution Center layouts, material flows, Automation equipment, etc. is expected. You will work autonomously with cross-functional team members to ensure their business needs are met by new system designs. You will be the owner of business case justification for new technology and/or CapEx purchases. You will also serve as a coach and mentor for junior engineers and team members, improving their technical and soft skills. An ability to translate complex technical information into simple documentation and presentations, independently, is crucial. Excellent interpersonal skills, professional attitude, and approach, and the ability to interact with individuals at various levels of the organization, up and down, are essential.

Requirements

• BS Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or similar field required.
• 8+ years of engineering experience in multi-site industrial distribution, manufacturing, or processing environments preferred.
• Experience with Warehouse Conveyance (Right Angle Transfers, MDR, Sortation, Spirals, etc.) including working knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
• Hands-on mechanical aptitude and an ability to understand how equipment and systems operate.
• Experience with using Warehouse Control Systems (WCS/WES) and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).
• Experience with SQL (Snowflake, MSSQL) and advanced data visualization tools (Tableau, Grafana, etc.).
• Experience with AutoCAD.
• An influential technical leader with interpersonal skills, professional attitude and approach, and has the ability to interact with individuals at various levels of the organization.
• An expert in equipment selection, design, standards, performance improvement, statistics.
• Ability to work as part of a team and interact effectively with others.
• Ability to analyze and provide solutions for cost reduction through automation implementation and cost/benefit analysis.
• A superior multi-tasker, and have the ability to meet concurrent project deadlines.
• Known for delivering polished, high quality presentations and reports that influence and accelerate business decision making.
