Jabil is seeking a Lead Automation Engineer to work in our Richardson, TX site. How will you make an impact? As a Lead Automation Engineer with Jabil, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and deploying advanced automation solutions for our manufacturing processes. You will also be responsible for leading projects, driving innovation, and ensuring the efficient and reliable operation of automated systems to optimize production and quality.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or similar related discipline.
  • At least 8 years of experience in industrial automation OR other combination of education or experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years in a project lead or senior engineering role.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Siemens, Rockwell, Mitsubishi) and HMI development.
  • Extensive experience with robotic systems (e.g., Fanuc, KUKA, ABB) and their integration into manufacturing lines.
  • Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus).
  • Experience with vision systems (e.g., Cognex, Keyence) for inspection and guidance applications.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced Excel skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a technical team.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with diverse teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver results within defined timelines.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing execution systems (MES) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems is a plus.
  • Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing certification is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the entire lifecycle of automation projects, from concept and design through development, testing, deployment, and ongoing support.
  • Manage and work together with a team of engineers to implement automation, provide technical guidance, performance feedback, and foster professional development.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, quality, and R&D, and customers to define automation requirements and integrate solutions seamlessly.
  • Design and implement PLC/HMI programming, robotic systems, vision systems, and other advanced automation technologies.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments, and cost-benefit analyses for new automation initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation, including functional specifications, design documents, and test plans.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to automated equipment and systems, ensuring minimal downtime.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in industrial automation.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, quality standards, and company policies.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in automation processes and technologies.
