About The Position

Raytheon’s Mission Applied Science & Technology (MAST) directorate is seeking a Lead Applied Imagery Scientist and Data Scientist with deep experience using machine learning including neural networks and computer vision to develop research prototypes, and transition them to production-grade analytics pipelines to join the MAST AIML Solutions team. The MAST directorate is an energetic multi-disciplinary team of over 60 engineers working collaboratively with internal and external customers to develop novel solutions for data science and emerging technology applications. Our team pushes the boundaries of innovation and creativity to establish next-generation mission solutions from system-level up to campaign level.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
  • Experience in software development, using Python, Java, IDL, R, or other open source high level language used in data science.
  • Experience developing, training, and evaluating machine learning models, including deep neural networks; optimizing model performance and conducting validation across large, datasets.
  • Experience developing algorithms for large, datasets, in geospatial, sensing, and imagery data; in computer-vision applications
  • An active and transferable U.S. government issued TS/SCI security clearance is required prior to start date.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced experience with EO image processing, including a strong understanding of analytic use cases across MSI, HSI, IR, and low‑light imaging.
  • Practical experience applying Markov Chain methods for modeling, analysis, or algorithm development.
  • Experience optimizing software for specific hardware architectures, including instruction‑level tuning and performance profiling.
  • Proficiency in vectorized mathematical computations on large datasets
  • Hands‑on experience with both CPU and GPU processing, including parallelization strategies and performance optimization for large‑scale workloads

Responsibilities

  • Partner with a multi‑disciplinary team to design, develop, and deliver new features for Python and Java machine learning and AI applications
  • Train, evaluate, and refine machine learning models using geospatial and imagery data
  • Develop and integrate new algorithms for machine learning, computer vision, and imagery science workflows
  • Maintain, optimize, and extend existing codebases to improve performance, scalability, and reliability
  • Communicate progress, technical insights, and risks to leadership within an Agile environment
