About The Position

In this role, the Health Educator will focus their time on two major priorities. First will be ensuring that local health departments across Indiana are adequately educated and trained to perform case management for children with elevated blood lead levels. This is done using a remote training platform and through on-site face-to-face education performed at health departments around the state. Second, is working with healthcare providers and parents to ensure children under 7 are being adequately tested for lead in their blood, and that those test results are being reported to the State. Work is primarily performed at IDOH’s main office in Indianapolis, but day travel up to 1-2 times per week across the state may be required.

Requirements

Specialized knowledge of public health, allied health, health & safety and/or health education.
Broad knowledge of educational principles, theories, and methodology.
Broad knowledge of, and ability to apply, public health and health education/promotion philosophies, methods, and techniques.
Specialized knowledge of social, behavioral, and biological sciences.
Working knowledge of laws, rules and regulations relating to education and public health.
Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, with professionals and non- professionals.
Ability to plan, prepare and present public presentations in a variety of settings such as health education workshops, conferences, and training sessions.
Working knowledge of group process/facilitation techniques.
Working knowledge of local, state, and national health related sources.
Ability to interpret data, prepare reports and write health related literature.
Ability to evaluate health education materials, programs, and curricula.
Ability to identify improvement opportunities and then curate and deliver content for improvement.
Working knowledge of audio/visual, computer and display equipment.
Five (5) years of related experience applying the outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role may be considered.

Responsibilities

Evaluate health education materials/equipment.
Plan, develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate health education programs for schools, community groups, business/industry, agencies, and special populations.
Disseminate data and health information to professionals and non-professionals as requested.
Coordinate health related activities with organizations, appointed councils and other groups at the local, state, and national level.
Conduct workshops, conferences, and training sessions to educate professionals about health education issues.
Develop, write, and review grants related to health education.
Represent the agency on various professional boards/committees concerning health.
Consult on and/or facilitates health education programming within the agency.
Communicate with various constituencies on a regular basis to provide updated health information.
Keep abreast of developments in health education by reviewing journals and attending conferences.
