About The Position

Ensures that all paint work is carried out in accordance with Company procedures and policies, manufacturer’s technical data, as well as FAA regulatory guidelines. This role involves providing instruction and on-the-job training to assigned personnel, performing paint tasks alongside the team, and ensuring the use of appropriate manual references and proper tools. The Lead Aircraft Painter monitors the quality of work in progress and performance to the production schedule, submits work to Quality Assurance for final inspection and re-certification, and assists in implementing ways to remedy behind-schedule conditions. Additionally, this position assists in the maintenance of records and technical data required by the FAA, monitors departmental requirements and inventories to avoid shortages, and plans work-arounds to alleviate shortage conditions. The role also ensures that labor and materials are charged to the correct job and work order number. Repair assignments may require heavy lifting, and the incumbent should be knowledgeable in the operation of man-lift equipment and operate lifting and moving devices to access areas to be painted. The Lead Aircraft Painter must be knowledgeable in the use, cleaning, and maintenance of all currently used painting equipment. Responsibilities include applying or installing logos, symbols, or designs according to blueprint specifications, mixing and thinning paint, painting areas inaccessible to spray guns or retouching surfaces with a brush, and painting designs or lettering on aircraft. The role also involves regulating ventilation and exhaust units, selecting and matching paint colors, setting up ladders and scaffolding, and removing contaminants from aircraft surfaces. Ensuring compliance with all Federal and local environmental and OSHA/TOSHA regulations is critical.

Requirements

  • Advanced Technician Role, requiring Advanced Skills to perform all standard tasks within the Technical Area assigned to
  • Generally, at least 5-7 years of recent experience in aeronautical environment in a Painter’s role.
  • Knowledge of preparation and painting of aircraft, support equipment, and allied components.
  • Advanced knowledge of paint processes and products (lacquers, enamels, epoxies, urethanes, and acrylics) is necessary.
  • Knowledge of blueprints and diagrams.
  • Understand technical management and quality assurance procedures.
  • Able to train and transfer knowledge.
  • Incumbent should be knowledgeable in operation of man-lift equipment.
  • Ability to work in a safe professional manner adhering to all regulatory requirements including, OSHA, EPA, State and Federal regulations.
  • The Lead Technician will be properly certificated in accordance with either FAR 65 Subpart D or Subpart E.
  • Must have the ability to wear a respirator as per OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134 "Respirator Protection" regulations with no restrictions that would prevent the proper use and/or seal of the respirator.
  • Individual will be subject to the Respiratory Fit Test.
  • Employees will be subject to the random drug and alcohol testing under FAA regulations

Responsibilities

  • Paints areas inaccessible to spray gun or retouches painted surface, using brush.
  • Paints designs, lettering, or other identifying information on aircraft, using paint brush or paint sprayer.
  • Regulates controls on ventilation and exhaust units to cure and dry paint or other coatings.
  • Selects paint according to company requirements and matches colors of paint following specified color charts.
  • Sets up ladders, and scaffolding according to regulations and aircraft requirement.
  • Removes grease, dirt, paint, and corrosion from aircraft surface, using abrasives, solvents, and brushes.
  • Ensures all Federal and local environmental and OSHA/TOSHA regulations are complied with.
