The Lead Administrative Specialist coordinates and balances team workloads, resolves daily employee concerns, manages records, and reports on performance. The role supports staff development, ensures coverage, and serves as a designated floater for critical staffing needs, including division- and directorate-level offices. Through team leadership and development, the position helps the unit achieve organizational goals. At the highest advertised grade, the role leads the assignment and distribution of work, trains or coordinates training, monitors work and progress, maintains administrative references and records, and advises team members on policies and procedures. It also analyzes team effectiveness and work products, coordinates work-related communications, and leads the team in planning, evaluating its strengths and weaknesses, and identifying improvements. Duties at lower grades have more limited scope, independence, and complexity. The position is open to U.S. citizens, nationals, or people who owe allegiance to the United States. It may require a one-year probationary period, a pre-employment background investigation or higher-level clearance, and—depending on duty location or NASA Center requirements—financial disclosure, drug testing, or travel. Qualifications may be met through specified specialized experience, graduate education, or an equivalent combination, depending on the GS-09 or GS-11 level. Applicants using education must meet applicable accreditation or foreign-credential evaluation requirements. The position is not part of a bargaining unit. A career with the U.S. government offers a comprehensive benefits package; specific eligibility depends on position type, and applicants should contact the hiring agency for details.
