About The Position

The Lead Accountant serves as an operational lead for the Accounts Payable (AP) team. This role provides higher-level technical support to the team – assisting with data extractions/analysis and reporting, implementation of new technologies to assist with daily processes, and other tasks as needed. The AP team processes transactions in several different systems and supports requests that originate throughout the company to pull data for various projects. The Lead Accountant will need to become a Subject-Matter Expert in the AP data in order to support these requests. The ideal candidate has strong technical expertise as well as a good working knowledge of accounting systems and transactions, excellent communication skills, and the ability to organize complex workstreams while supporting a collaborative, customer‑focused team culture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and accounting processes.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Proficiency in data extraction tools such as SQL or Oracle OTBI.
  • Experience with large financial/ERP systems (Oracle experience preferred).
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving capability, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • High level of initiative, resourcefulness, and independent decision‑making.
  • Proven ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, customer service orientation, and ability to collaborate across departments.
  • Demonstrated integrity, professionalism, and sound business ethics.

Nice To Haves

  • Eight (8) years of accounting or accounting systems experience in a large organization.
  • Experience with tools such as PowerBI and Alteryx.
  • Background in system design, organizational structure management, or financial system transformation.
  • Familiarity with allocation methodologies and financial reporting hierarchies.

Responsibilities

  • Review and validate standard and ad hoc reports created by the team (QMF, MS Access, Excel, ODBC, SQL, OTBI).
  • Analyze business processes to identify opportunities for automation, efficiency, and improved data accuracy.
  • Support development or enhancement of accounting methods, workflows, and system configurations.
  • Promote best practices for documentation, change control, and data governance.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with internal and external partners, including Accounting, IT, Division Finance, Financial Systems, and other business units.
  • Effectively communicate technical concepts and system changes to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Attend project meetings with internal stakeholders to ensure maintenance to accounting systems supports the business needs and adheres to GAAP and company policies.
