About The Position

Leidos’ Defense Sector is seeking an experienced Lead A&P Mechanic to support aircraft maintenance operations in El Paso, TX. This role is responsible for leading day‑to‑day maintenance activities, ensuring aircraft are maintained in accordance with OEM specifications, FAA regulations, and contract performance standards. The position requires hands‑on technical expertise, strong leadership skills, and the ability to work safely in diverse and sometimes challenging environments.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Valid U.S. civilian driver’s license.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Current FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) certification.
  • Ability to pass a DOT drug test.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, including ability to calculate proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to interpret written, oral, and diagram instructions and solve problems involving multiple variables.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and execute daily maintenance direction.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Bombardier Global series aircraft or similar platforms.
  • Prior experience leading, training, supervising, and managing aircraft maintenance teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage shift maintenance operations, ensuring priorities are met and airworthy aircraft are delivered to the customer.
  • Oversee scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, inspections, and repairs on airframes, engines, components, and appliances.
  • Ensure compliance with contract performance standards and proper documentation of all maintenance actions.
  • Lead and supervise troubleshooting, repair, replacement, and rebuild of structural and functional components, including rigging, flight controls, plumbing, and hydraulic systems.
  • Review maintenance forecasts and maintenance task cards to ensure required parts, tooling, and resources are available or requested.
  • Verify accuracy of mechanics completed paperwork and ensure adherence to FOD and tool‑control procedures.
  • Provide mentorship and training to “A” and “B” level mechanics to support growth and development.
  • Maintain effective communication and trust with customer aircrews regarding aircraft condition.
  • Interpret OEM, DoD technical manuals, service bulletins, airworthiness directives, and other technical documents to determine maintenance methods of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
  • Perform and oversee daily pre‑ and post‑flight inspections.
  • Inspect turbine blades for FOD, wear, or material failure using visual and borescope methods.
  • Service aircraft fuel, oil, hydraulic, oxygen, and nitrogen systems.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and avionics systems and provide effective corrective actions.
  • Conduct engine inspections for damage, leaks, and security.
  • Perform routine servicing tasks including filter changes, lubrication, wheel/tire maintenance, NiCad battery servicing, compressor washes, and sanitation system servicing.
  • Certify work performed with required signatures.
  • Maintain aircraft cleanliness and appearance.
  • Submit required daily, weekly, and monthly reports.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work environment and follow all safety rules, including “clean as you go.”
  • Work hours may vary based on operational needs.
  • Complete all assigned training in a timely manner.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
