About The Position

This position is responsible for the daily care of flocks and the proper collection and identification of eggs in the Ped Sister/Super Sister houses. The role involves collecting and recording eggs, caring for and monitoring flocks, maintaining the flock environment, and completing related duties as assigned. The work schedule is Sunday through Wednesday, 6:10 a.m. to 4:10 p.m., and may change based on production needs. The jobsite is a biosecure environment. Team members must shower and change clothing and footwear before entering; the company provides appropriate clothing and footwear. Jewelry is not permitted except medical ID jewelry and piercings covered by appropriate clothing. Candidates must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid contact with avian species and to follow the company’s Biosecurity and Animal Welfare Guidelines. The role requires working on wet, slippery surfaces and in hot, dry, dusty, wet, and cold environments. Required protective equipment includes safety goggles and/or glasses, chemical gloves, a waterproof apron, rubber boots, and a company-provided facial covering. NIOSH-approved N95 particulate respirators and arm protectors may be worn as needed. Commonly used chemicals include disinfectants, vehicle fluids, and lubricants. Team members are expected to follow safety policies and procedures, identify safety risks, and address or mitigate them.

Requirements

Must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Must use safe lifting techniques; regularly lift egg flats weighing up to 12 pounds and hens and roosters weighing 12–16 pounds; and regularly pull or push egg crates weighing up to 60 pounds.
Must be willing to shower and change clothing and footwear before entering the biosecure facility.
Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid avian species and to sign and abide by the company’s Biosecurity and Animal Welfare Guidelines.

Must safely operate a vehicle to and from the work area.
The job requires standing for most of the shift on a concrete floor, walking, sitting, handling or feeling objects, tools, or controls, reaching, balancing, stooping, talking, and hearing. Required vision abilities include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and adjusting focus.

Responsibilities

Collect eggs, place them in plastic flats, mark them according to line identification standards, and calculate and record the number of eggs laid per flock.
Provide daily flock care by calculating and recording feed amounts per pen, weighing feed, and distributing it into feed hoppers.
Weigh 60 females and 30 males weekly using digital scales to determine average flock weight.
Collect weekly environmental boot-swab samples and bird cleft-pallet swab samples.
Monitor flocks for signs of injury or illness and report concerns to the lead or manager.
Collect, record, and dispose of flock mortality.
Flush water lines weekly, maintain pen bedding and nests to animal welfare standards, and use a handheld electric blower to clear dust from equipment weekly.
Operate high-pressure and regular water hoses; maintain foot pans and hand sanitizer; check vehicle fluid levels, filters, and tire pressure; clean and disinfect vehicles; and maintain a clean, organized work area.
Follow applicable safety policies and procedures, including Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, LOTO, and Personal Protective Equipment requirements.
