About The Position

This position involves attending to and caring for hens by ensuring the flock has adequate feed, water, and ventilation. The worker will also collect and inspect eggs to ascertain quality and fitness for incubation. Other duties may be assigned, including cleaning, maintenance, and record-keeping related to the flock and egg production. The job requires adherence to strict biosecurity, animal welfare, and safety protocols. The work environment can involve wet, slippery, hot, dry, dusty, and cold conditions. Personal Protective Equipment is required.

Requirements

  • Applicants must have no disciplinary actions within the last 6 months.
  • Must have a point level </= 6 attendance points.
  • Must have 6 months in current area unless the TM is promoting, then less than 6 months in current area is allowable.
  • Must use safe lifting techniques.
  • Must regularly stoop/bend over to floor level to collect eggs up to 300 times per shift.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 58 pounds to move items such as feed buckets, tools, and trash can.
  • Must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.).
  • Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines.
  • Will be trained to recognize and comply with all Safety procedures.
  • Team member is expected to follow all applicable safety policies and procedures.
  • Team member is expected to identify, address and mitigate safety related risks.

Responsibilities

  • Collects eggs from egg table, picks up eggs from floor, and records number of eggs laid (35%)
  • Collects and handles eggs by observing/grades/cleans and records egg quality; distributes or disposes according to Cobb standard (30%)
  • Weighs feed, handles birds and weighs birds according to schedules (15%)
  • Changes and cleans nest pads, dusts nests, cleans walls and ceilings, maintains egg room in a clean state and performs other routine housekeeping duties; add/change litter (10%)
  • Records information according to instructions such as egg numbers, bird weight, medications, feed intake, mortality, and production percentage (5%)
  • Records number of floor eggs and works to eliminate these by training hens to use nest boxes; monitors feed, water, and ventilation systems; sanitation of egg collection room and change foot pans; properly euthanize weak/ill birds in accordance with company policy; remove dead; maintain rat bat stations; spray insecticides; maintain a biosecure environment; walks the inside of poultry houses; collects weekly swabs for testing; performs minor maintenance; dispose of daily mortality; keeps poultry houses supplied with proper materials.
  • Clean out poultry houses, disinfect houses to prepare for birds.
  • Set up house for new birds, as needed.
