About The Position

The Layup Department Operator is responsible for applying spray adhesive to multiple plies of sheet material, laying up the layers, operating the press and using a router to trim excess material. Production needs include but are not limited to customer orders, inventory, product samples, and product development prototypes. Responsible for the safety and well-being of self as well as all associates within the facility. High attention to detail, accuracy, and quality of work. Oversee the production of layered materials, ensuring safe work practices as well as keeping the work area a safe work environment for all that work or enter the area. Ability to learn to operate Microperf machine (as a support role) under the direction of the Microperf Tech, Team Lead and Department Supervisor. Always communicate with the team to ensure safety, quality and delivery expectations are met. Responsible for machine start-up, shut-down and Preventative Maintenance. Responsible for the accuracy and completeness of all paperwork coming into and leaving from the Layup Department. Communicate all key information to your Production Supervisor, 1st shift Team Lead and 2nd shift Team Lead in a timely manner.

  • Ability to troubleshoot problems
  • Ability to interact well with others in the common pursuit of working safely while producing material that meets all quality attributes and standards
  • Ability to read, understand and follow Standard Work Sheets, Manufacturing Drawings, Routers and Travelers
  • Must be able to start up, shut down and make machine adjustments though a computer touch-screen
  • Must be able to retain information and follow instructions
  • Must be able to read & understand Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
  • Must be able to wear a respirator

Nice To Haves

  • Some knowledge of wood products
  • Experience using a spray gun preferred
  • 1-3 years of past manufacturing experience preferred
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Prefer: OSHA 10 hour training
