Spring Law Student Internship – Denver Housing Unit
About The Position
Colorado Legal Services (CLS) is Colorado’s statewide nonprofit legal aid program, with thirteen offices providing civil legal assistance to low-income Coloradans throughout the state. CLS provides free legal assistance in a broad variety of legal areas, including family law, public benefits, eviction defense, consumer protection, services to survivors of serious crime and human trafficking, and many others. CLS has strengthened lives, assisted families, and supported communities–one person at a time for over 100 years. This position is for a law student who will work with the Adams housing clinic. The student will participate in clinics and support the work of attorneys and paralegals. There will be opportunities to work directly with individuals facing eviction and support with their legal cases.
Requirements
- Strong commitment to legal issues affecting low-income individuals
- Strong interest in research, writing and interviewing
- Strong commitment to working with vulnerable individuals, including disabled and elderly clients in need of legal assistance.
- Candidate should be confident and able to work both independently and as part of a team
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Responsibilities
- Assist with the investigation of applicant’s legal issues through client interviews, documentary review, research and analysis.
- Assist at the Housing Unit’s Eviction Clinic in Adams County.
- Drafting of advice letters, pleadings, memoranda and briefs and legal research.
- Assistance with any other tasks necessary to carry out effective representation of clients.
