About The Position

The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City is seeking a self-motivated, versatile Federal Reserve Law Enforcement Sergeant (FRLEO). This role serves as a technical and operational leader for law enforcement staff during shift operations. While this position does not have direct reports, the Sergeant provides guidance, mentorship, and tactical direction to officers. Internal candidates should anticipate an October 2026 start date, while external candidates will begin in January 2027 when academy training commences. Please note, the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City is not a government agency, therefore this is not a government position.

Requirements

  • Typically requires at least 5 years of relevant experience
  • High school education or GED
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
  • Master understanding of businesses processes and subject matter.
  • Has depth and/or breadth of expertise and is considered highly skilled.
  • Performs work independently.
  • Excellent oral and interpersonal communications skills
  • Write clear, concise, and grammatically correct documents
  • Working knowledge in the use of PCs, email, and ability to learn other computer based/ MS Office applications
  • Ability to lawfully carry a firearm.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate law enforcement staff performing security duties including post assignments, patrol, access control, screening, surveillance, and special assignments
  • Serve as a liaison between management and operational staff, facilitating effective communication in both directions
  • Protect and safeguard personnel, property, assets, and operations, remaining alert for potential security, property, or safety concerns and initiates the appropriate actions.
  • Respond to disturbances and unusual, emergency, or other rapidly evolving events/situations, including potentially life-threatening situations.
  • Use the appropriate degree of physical force and/or weaponry as situation dictates and makes critical decisions at the scene prior to the arrival of more senior officers.
  • Prepare detailed incident reports.
  • Operate and monitor Bank Law Enforcement and life safety systems and equipment, including but not limited to the closed-circuit television system, integrated access control and Law Enforcement alarm systems, x-ray machine and metal detectors, biometric readers, radio system, fire system, public address system, and fire extinguishers.
  • May perform rotational roles such as Canine Handler, Instructor, Field Training Officer, etc.
  • May train, delegate, and review work of less experienced staff.
  • Lead teams of FRLEOs to support the operations functions, and direction of the Law Enforcement Unit.
  • Facilitate and provide general oversight and direction for the day-to-day activities of the Law Enforcement Department.
  • In the absence of a supervisor, assume responsibility for and lead shift operation or specialized area.
  • Ensure FRLEOs are properly equipped, trained, and fulfilling their duties in compliance with organization's policies.
  • Complete required department reports, review reports prepared by FRLEOs, and provide administrative assistance to supervision.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
