About The Position

This advertisement is for a Bureau of Insurance Fraud detective within the Criminal Investigations Division of the Department of Financial Services. The Criminal Investigations Division encompasses all law enforcement and forensic components residing within the Department of Financial Services. The position requires the incumbent to be a sworn law enforcement officer, subject to being on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and to bear firearms. The incumbent must maintain certification as a law enforcement officer pursuant to Chapter 943, Florida Statutes. The position also includes participation in the DFS Disaster Response Team, potentially requiring short-notice duties and travel in support of disaster relief efforts.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or its equivalent.
  • Three (3) or more years of sworn law enforcement experience.
  • ACTIVE Certified Florida Law Enforcement Officer; or have completed the Florida Equivalency of Training (CJSTC 76) and are eligible to receive the Law Enforcement Certification in accordance with Section 943.13, Florida Statutes.
  • VALID Driver’s License from the Florida Department of Safety and Motor Vehicles by time of employment.
  • Must live no more than 50 miles from your residence to your assigned duty station (office).

  • Experience, education, training, knowledge, skills and/or abilities must be verifiable.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct extensive investigations, including following up on leads, conducting interviews, executing search warrants, and making arrests.
  • Conduct follow-up latent investigations, interviewing witnesses and interrogating suspects to secure background information.
  • Identify and arrest criminal suspects and prepare and present information and evidence to the prosecuting attorney.
  • Provide expert testimony at legal proceedings and assist in the preparation of witnesses, victims, and evidence for prosecution.
  • Identify, recruit, document, and supervise confidential sources.
  • Collect, seize, protect, maintain, transport, and document evidence consistent with statutes, current case law, and DIVISION Policies and Procedures.
  • Display sound surveillance techniques and plan and conduct undercover operations.
  • Provide investigative and undercover operational support to DIVISION personnel and other public safety entities.
  • Assist DIVISION personnel with investigations, arrests, surveillance, and raids related to undercover operations.
  • Determine involvement of suspects in other crimes.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed case files for criminal prosecution and/or civil forfeiture.
  • Develop sources of information for mid to upper-level investigations of organizations and fraudsters.
  • Apply diverse knowledge and research methods, and develop strategic and tactical intelligence.
  • Monitor arrests, prosecutions, and forfeitures, and maintain liaison with Prosecutors.
  • Conduct thorough background investigations on potential Department employees.
  • Establish and maintain liaison with other entities.
  • Perform disaster-related duties as requested.
  • Provide complete and accurate collection of data/information, evaluation, and dissemination.
  • Display initiative and organizational skills in conducting investigative activities.
  • Prepare and implement investigative plans.
  • Focus investigations on objectives necessary for prosecution and closure of cases.
  • Display creative planning and seek innovative resolutions.
  • Meet goals, objectives, and assignments efficiently and in a timely manner.
  • Consistently allocate resources to maximize efficiency and successful case completion.
