About The Position

Hooks, Meng & Clement (HMC) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Law Clerk to join our team in Carson City, Nevada. HMC concentrates its practice in Workers’ Compensation Insurance Defense, OSHA Employer Representation, and Industrial Insurance Litigation. We represent a diverse client base that includes employers, insurance carriers, and third-party administrators. This position offers an excellent opportunity for current law students or recent law school graduates interested in pursuing a career as a licensed attorney. Law Clerks at HMC gain meaningful, hands-on experience, practical training, and direct exposure to substantive legal work in a collaborative and supportive environment. In this role, you will build a strong foundation in the analytical, procedural, and advocacy skills essential to successful legal practice. You will work closely with experienced attorneys on active cases, contributing to real-world legal matters while developing your professional skillset.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and must have graduated from or currently be attending law school.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively on a team but also work independently.
  • Basic understanding of the legal system and legal terminology.
  • Must live in the Northern Nevada area, as this is an in-office position.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research on various legal topics and provide summaries of findings to support the firm's attorneys.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and court staff, as directed by the firm's attorneys.
  • Assist with the preparation of legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and correspondence.
  • Support case management tasks, such as scheduling court appearances, preparing case summaries, and organizing case files.
  • Use the electronic case management system, Filevine, to keep files up to date and organized.
  • Be able to meet or exceed monthly billing requirements using the Clio billing system.
