About The Position

The Supreme Court of Nevada is currently accepting applications for judicial law clerkships starting in Summer/Fall of 2027. There are available in-chambers positions in both Carson City and Las Vegas. Clerkships are available for either one or two years, depending on the preference of the Justice. As a law clerk, you'll work directly with a Justice, assisting in processing appeals and writ petitions. Your tasks will include legal research, drafting bench memoranda, preparing orders and opinions, and reviewing documents produced in chambers. Clerking at the Supreme Court of Nevada provides a rare opportunity to receive direct mentorship from a Justice on Nevada’s highest court. Law clerks work closely with their Justice on complex legal issues, gaining firsthand insight into appellate decision-making, judicial reasoning, and writing dispositions. Please note that the role may require occasional holiday, night, and weekend work, as well as periodic out-of-town travel.

Requirements

  • Must have graduated with a Juris Doctor from an ABA accredited law school by the start of the clerkship, preferably in the top 20% of the class.
  • Law clerks must possess exceptional legal research and writing abilities, must be flexible, and must be motivated to work independently to produce high quality work in a fast-paced appellate environment.
  • Applicants should submit a resume, cover letter, transcripts, writing sample, and list of three references.

  • Law review or other journal experience is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Review cases assigned to chambers
  • Conduct the necessary legal research in a thorough and meticulous manner
  • Prepare concise, well organized bench memos, opinions, and orders
  • Handle original petitions and petitions for rehearing
  • Edit own work product and that of co-clerks
  • Review all current decisions published by this court
  • Keep abreast of decisions from other courts that may be applicable to pending Nevada cases
  • Carefully proofread orders and opinions
  • Observe oral arguments
