About The Position

Selective Insurance Company is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented law student to join its New Jersey Staff Counsel office as a Law Clerk for the 2026–2027 academic year. Our office is a busy litigation group dedicated to defending the Company’s insureds in a wide range of civil matters. This is a part-time paid position during the school year, with flexible hours, 10-25 hours per week, depending on your availability. This position offers a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience and meaningful exposure to civil litigation practice, with a focus on various aspects of Civil Procedure.

Requirements

Attending law school
Ability to work efficiently by staying focused on task at hand and completing work on schedule.
Demonstrated commitment to producing quality work.
Demonstrated attention to detail.
Ability to work effectively with others.
Basic knowledge of MS Office (Word, Outlook and Excel).

Nice To Haves

2-4 years of general office work including some experience in prioritizing work and meeting deadlines is preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist in research and writing.
Draft pleadings, including motions and briefs.
Review and analyze files, organize case materials and assist in evaluating liability and exposure.
Assemble and arrange policies, documents, manuals, presentations, and/or printed materials. Ensure quality and accuracy of work.
Provide helpful, friendly, knowledgeable customer service on the phone or online.
Communicates effectively, completes transactions, and resolves problems.
Performs other legal clerical in support of department or function assigned.
