Attorney / Law Clerk Supporting the US Attorney's Office
About The Position
FSA Federal is hiring a Law Clerk to support the overall mission of the United States Attorney's Office (USAO), including its Asset Forfeiture Section. The USAO serves as the nation's principal litigators under the direction of the Attorney General. The Asset Forfeiture Section prosecutes criminal and civil actions against property used or acquired during illegal activity. The position supports a nationwide law enforcement initiative focused on removing the tools and proceeds of crime from criminal organizations and disrupting their infrastructure. Under supervision, the Law Clerk assists attorneys with the litigation process, prepares litigation documents, reviews the work of paralegals and clerks, and screens documents for privilege. The role requires a law degree or current enrollment in an ABA-accredited law school with at least one year completed. U.S. citizenship and a seven- or ten-year minimum background investigation are required.
Requirements
- Law degree, or current enrollment at an ABA-accredited law school with at least one year completed.
- Experience conducting legal research using various research tools and law library resources.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including legal writing skills.
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, and other common software applications, including databases.
- Ability to work in a team environment, deliver high-quality work, and maintain a professional disposition under extreme pressure.
- U.S. citizenship.
- Ability to undergo a seven- or ten-year minimum background investigation.
Responsibilities
- Under supervision, assists attorneys with the litigation process.
- Reviews work of paralegals and clerks.
- Prepares documents related to litigation, including drafting motions, briefs, and memoranda of law.
- Screens documents for privilege.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
