The Law Clerk II reports to the Presiding Judge of the Division or Municipal District of the Circuit of Cook County or as otherwise assigned. The position requires a strong commitment to access to justice, a highly professional demeanor, and sound judgment. The Law Clerk assists judges in resolving matters before the court and in courtroom proceedings by researching and analyzing legal issues based on statutes and case law, searching and studying legal records, documents, and law, and preparing written memoranda and summaries. The role also involves assisting in drafting and proofreading various legal documents, consulting with judges on legal interpretations, monitoring pending legislation, assisting outside counsel with litigation involving judges or court employees, and performing other miscellaneous duties as required while maintaining confidentiality.
