Law Clerk II
About The Position
The Litigation Support Team at Leidos currently supporting the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) in Washington, DC has an opening for a Law Clerk II to perform litigation support duties via said role. This is an exciting opportunity to use your experience helping the U.S. Department of Justice achieve their mission. Requirements
- Requires Law degree, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least two years of study or, an equivalent level of legal training or experience; or an equivalent level of education may be substituted
- Must have 2+ years of progressively more responsible experience on litigation support projects or task order related projects including proven capabilities and communication skills to successfully interact with clients and attorneys
- Requires sound working knowledge of federal and state court systems, legal research procedures, and legal research resources
- Thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw
- Must have hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, and imaging
- Role also requires hands-on familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Excellent analytical skills
- Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure will be very important
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to obtain a Public Trust clearance
Nice To Haves
- Experience working in a Government and/or Litigation Support environment in conjunction with basic qualifications, preferred
- Experience with Relativity, helpful and should be referenced within resume, if applicable
- Trial experience very helpful
- Experience with (or an interest in) informal adjudications under an agency’s enabling act and regulations
- Experience handling large volume of cases or claims, strongly preferred
- Current or active clearance
Responsibilities
- Works under the direction of a Supervisory Paralegal or Project Manager performing complex legal research
- Preparing draft legal documents, such as motions, briefs, memoranda of law, etc.
- Reviewing documents for relevance and privilege
- Assisting attorneys with all phases of litigation
- Acts independently and/or as a team leader on larger projects
- Responsibilities may include acting as primary interface with trial attorneys, experts, and other client staff
- Assists in drafting of Program’s decisions
- Reviewing documents for relevance and privilege
- Demonstrated ability to discern the relevant issues in complex fact patterns
