About The Position

Manages the cleaning of laundry in the El Paso County Detention facilities. Supervises inmates assigned to the laundry area and ensures that damaged clothing and bedding are repaired when feasible. The Sheriff’s Office provides public safety at all times and therefore every position is deemed essential. All positions are in-person and not eligible for remote work. Every position is also subject to recall based on the needs of the Office to keep the community safe. This position has an anticipated work schedule of: Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:00pm, subject to change.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of, and ability to use commercial washers/dryers and sewing machines.
  • Must be honest, truthful, and trustworthy and possess a high degree of personal integrity.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with employees, other divisions, government agencies and the public.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • High school diploma or equivalent education.
  • Experience and knowledge of laundry business and clothing repair.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Must obtain and maintain Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) Compliance within six months of employment.
  • Must pass conditional post offer background investigation, truth verification examination, motor vehicle record check, Tuberculosis testing, drug screen, and physical examination.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the daily operation of the facility's laundry, to include the washing of inmate clothing/bedding and the cleaning of the laundry and dress out rooms.
  • Anticipates and communicates laundry area needs to the Special Projects Sergeant.
  • Coordinates and collaborates with the Special Projects Sergeant in addressing complex issues or concerns.
  • Inspects the condition of the laundry and determines the appropriate course of action.
  • Supervises the inmate trustees assigned to the laundry area, to include assigning specific duties.
  • Creates and maintains inmate work schedules.
  • Orders all required cleaning supplies (soap, bleach, softener, etc.) and ensures machines have detergent loaded.
  • Completes written correspondence such as disciplinary requests and logistical reports.
  • Provides statistical data concerning laundry operations.
  • Works closely with the Supply Room Specialist to ensure adequate stock of jump suits and linens are maintained and assists in identifying items to be ordered.
  • Performs other duties as required.
