About The Position

Under the direction of the Environmental Services Supervisor, the Laundry Coordinator supervises, coordinates, and participates in Linen activities of the department. This role involves interacting with vendors, patients, other employees, and the public, as well as providing distribution of Linen within the Hospital. The coordinator is responsible for maintaining a safe and sanitary work environment, receiving and examining equipment and supplies for quality and quantity, and maintaining accurate records. The position also assists in the evaluation process for Linen Aides and participates in the development of departmental goals and objectives. The role requires the ability to work scheduled hours, including holidays, weeknights, weekends, and on-call, and to participate in emergencies and community disasters. The employee must also report perceived misconduct and demonstrate cooperative behavior.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least one (1) year of progressive, current Linen experience.
  • Ability to function effectively with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence if required.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English, and communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages if required.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Basic computer skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Hotel or hospital experience preferred.
  • Previous supervisory experience desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares Linen for distribution to off-site clinics.
  • Trains personnel in all aspects of Linen services. Monitors employee performance outcomes; retrains as needed. Uses corrective action as appropriate.
  • Performs random Quality Control inspection of clean Linen.
  • Maintains clean and orderly Linen storage areas.
  • Ensures that Linen carts are loaded neatly and ready for scheduled delivery.
  • Maintains 24-hour Linen requirement in designated areas.
  • Conducts Linen usage studies and prepares month end report.
  • Advises supervisor of any changes in Laundry/Linen requirements.
  • Ensures that scrub suits are delivered to designated areas when returned from vendor.
  • Monitors Linen operation throughout shift, checking that adequate supplies are available and staff coverage is appropriate.
  • Participates in Performance Improvement activities. Identifies opportunities for improvement, and proposes policy/procedure changes, system changes, etc., to Assistant Director and/or department performance improvement committee.
  • Manages time effectively to meet department workload, support employee cleaning and distribution/pick-up activities.
  • Observes department policies and procedures.
  • Understands and implements all OHS and JCAHO requirements.
  • Documentation reflects compliance with established Hospital policies and procedures.
  • Must be in attendance on site and arrive to work on time.
