This position is part of the Long Term Care services. The Laundry Assistant performs day-to-day tasks to maintain a clean environment in a healthcare organization. This role involves working independently or as part of a team, ensuring safe and appropriate handling of laundry using specific equipment, methods, and techniques. Tasks include sorting, washing, chemical application, and managing water temperatures. The role requires adherence to infection prevention guidelines for handling contaminated laundry according to organizational and healthcare industrial laundry standards. Responsibilities also include laundry collection, sorting, handling, storage, and distribution of clean laundry. Depending on the location, this may involve collecting dirty linens (gowns, sheets, towels, blankets, personal clothing) from various areas and distributing clean linens. Specific tasks can include washing, drying, folding linens, sorting and folding clothing, and proper labeling. The position also involves storing and securing laundry supplies and equipment. Use of proper personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory. Physical activities include significant use of arms and legs, moving the whole body, and tasks like climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, twisting, squatting, and handling materials. The role requires the ability to lift and/or move up to 30-50lbs and push/pull up to 500lbs on flat surfaces or ramps. The individual will be on their feet for the majority of their shift and may be exposed to noise from equipment. Work hours may vary depending on patient needs and could include overtime, call, backup call, nights, days, weekends, and holidays.
