About The Position

The primary purpose of the Laundry Aide is to perform the day-to-day activities of the Laundry Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations. This role ensures the facility is maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner, and that an adequate supply of linen is available for residents. The Laundry Aide will coordinate daily laundry services with nursing services, follow fire safety policies, and use safety equipment when necessary. They are responsible for maintaining clean and sanitary work areas, properly mixing chemicals, using personal protective equipment, and informing their supervisor of supply needs. The role also involves keeping work areas free of hazards, cleaning carts and equipment, and performing assigned tasks according to established procedures. During emergencies, the Laundry Aide will distribute clean laundry as instructed and maintain the confidentiality of resident care information.

Requirements

  • Must maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, etc., and maintain the appearance of laundry areas, for sanitation, order, and safety.
  • Must be able to follow written and oral instructions concerning the mixture of cleaning compounds, liquids, cleaning instructions, etc.
  • Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet.
  • Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry a minimum of 25 pounds a minimum distance of 50 feet.

Responsibilities

  • Perform day-to-day activities of the Laundry Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations.
  • Assure that the facility is maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner.
  • Ensure an adequate supply of linen is on hand at all times to meet the needs of the residents.
  • Coordinate daily laundry services with nursing services when performing routine assignments in resident living areas.
  • Follow established fire safety policies and procedures.
  • Wear and/or use safety equipment and supplies when lifting or moving heavy objects.
  • Ensure that assigned work areas are maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner (e.g., dryer lint traps).
  • Follow proper techniques when mixing chemicals, disinfectants, and solutions.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment and supplies when handling infectious materials.
  • Keep supervisor informed of supply needs.
  • Keep work area(s) free of hazardous conditions (e.g., spills, excess laundry carts, baskets, supplies, equipment).
  • Clean work/supply carts, equipment, etc., as necessary/directed.
  • Ensure that equipment is cleaned and properly stored at the end of the shift.
  • Perform assigned tasks in accordance with established laundry procedures.
  • During emergency conditions, assure that clean laundry, linen, garments, etc., are distributed to designated areas as instructed.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information including protected health information.
  • Report known or suspected incidents of unauthorized disclosure of such information.
