About The Position

SUMMARY The Housekeeper will ensure that the facility is clean and sanitized for all, with a primary focus on maintaining linens, both institutional and personal, and keeping them clean, neat, and in a sanitary manner.

Requirements

Basic understanding of cleaning.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to perform multiple job functions and tasks with minimum supervision.
Must possess the ability to make independent decisions, to follow instructions, and to accept constructive criticism.
Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with other employees, management, visitors, outside contractors, and the general public.
Must maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, and maintain the appearance of maintenance work areas.
Must have the ability to minimize waste of supplies, misuse of equipment, etc.
Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing maintenance practices.
Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
Must be able to speak and write the English language.
Must be able to cope with the mental an emotional stress of the position.
Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity and the ability to work effectively with the resident, personnel and support agencies.
Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and at times hostile people within the facility.
Must be able to lift, push, pull and move a minimum of fifty (50) pounds.
Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents.
Must be tolerated by the heat generated by the laundry equipment.
Must be able to read, write and speak the English language.
Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such actions.
Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies and the general public.
Must maintain the care of and use of supplies, equipment, the appearance of work areas, and perform regular inspections of the laundry room and linen for sanitation, safety, neatness and proper performance of assigned duties.
Must be able to tolerate the use/smell of chemicals used in this department for laundering and cleaning/disinfecting the work area and equipment.
Must present a clean, personable appearance to visitors and others.
Must refer all questions about the facility and residents to Supervisors.
May be required to attend activities outside the facility to stay abreast of new developments, best practices, and statutory and regulatory changes.
Maintain the confidentiality of all resident information.
May be required to work holidays.
Pursuant to the Drug Free Workplace Act of 1988, all employees must remain drug free and alcohol free when reporting to work, while at work and while engaged in any work related activities.
Comply with all Healthcare Act rules and regulations and any related laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

Works with Housekeeping/Laundry Supervisor to implement recommended changes as required.
Assures that all laundry procedures are followed in accordance with all established policies and procedures.
Ensures the cleanliness, neatness and sanitary condition of all linen, both institutional and personal.
Ensures the physical cleanliness, appearance and maintenance of the laundry room and its equipment and furnishings.
Ensures that all areas of the laundry room are clean and orderly throughout the day.
Ensures that trash/waste is discarded to properly labeled containers.
Relines trash receptacles with correct liners to insure that all waste is identified correctly and discarded properly.
Continuous walking, standing, bending, stooping, pushing, turning, stretching and lifting during work hours
Good hand/finger dexterity to handle equipment and supplies.
Must have good visual, hearing and smelling acuity to detect and evaluate areas which need cleaning, sanitizing and deodorizing, as well as, detecting safety problems with equipment and/or furnishings.
Is subject to work beyond duty hours, on weekends, holidays, etc., and in other positions temporarily when necessary.
