About The Position

The Launch Captain will work on the Club’s two antique launches, the Kwasind and Hiawatha, both 60-foot ferries that exemplify the strong traditions of the RCYC. This position requires strong dedication to Club objectives, a conscious approach to duties, and willingness to meet Member satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Master 150 Gross Tonnage Certificate
  • Toronto Harbour License, or willingness to obtain.
  • Valid Marine Basic First Aid certificate.
  • Valid Marine Medical
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in the marine environment.
  • A positive attitude and good work ethic.
  • If required, wear assigned Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (i.e. non-slip shoes, gloves, weather appropriate dress attire, sun protection).

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of marine repair and maintenance methods an asset
  • Candidates who, in addition to the above, have relevant skills such as ship-handling, customer service, will be given strong consideration.

Responsibilities

  • Safely and efficiently operate Club-owned vessels, while adhering to all local, provincial, and federal maritime regulations.
  • Provide exceptional service by assisting members and guests with boarding/disembarkation, answering questions, and addressing concerns.
  • Ensure all safety equipment is aboard and in good working order, as well as conduct pre-departure safety briefings when necessary.
  • Perform routine checks on the vessel, including fuel, mechanical systems, and cleanliness, and report any issues to the supervisor.
  • Maintain accurate logs of trips, passenger counts, and any incidents.
  • Act promptly and effectively in emergencies, ensuring the safety of all passengers.
